It wasn’t bad, but it was a higher week-to-week drop than I was hoping for. The next 3 days otoh exceeded even optimistic estimates.

Aside from the obvious, this weekend was awful for DP2, whereas IW had a great Sat, Sun, Mon.

A more modern Silicon Valley inspired Lex was a fine idea imo, and I think the casting was workable, but the direction they took his performance was just too jarring for me to take seriously as an intelligent supervillain.

1 movie is not enough to wrap up all the stuff from 7&8 well. Not really sure what there plans for X were originally, if they even had any (follow Rey and Ren's kids or something? ) but you if you really want to get the overall Rey/Ren/Poe/Finn series back to a good place you need to at least spend IX and X on it imo. Not sure that would be worth it, might be better to just cap things off with a sort of messy IX and then leave the skywalker saga alone for a decade to do cool stuff that isn't propped up from OT novelty.

That 4-day estimate for IW is a joke, it will rise by 1M+.

Estimates were significantly too high in UK, and I believe also a bit too high in China. If that pattern holds, I think actuals may come in just so slightly below 60.

It’s a success. Just a bit of a relatively disspointing success, considering the first one, the reception, and the OW numbers. Also, AM&tW>DP2>Solo is looking pretty good right now.

I will certainly consider AM&tW a dissapointing underperformer if it makes like 610. That's just a bad number for a phase 3 MCU movie no matter how you want to try to spin it. Something like 690 would be totally solid.

Just waded through about 20 pages of people saying they disliked TLJ for non-racist reasons and getting called racist, hoping to find some rare gem of actually good box office content, and the only glimmer of hope was @baumer analysis of sequels opening ~2x+ their predecessor. I honestly think that a part of any "Star Wars fatigue" at the moment is related to discussions about it devolving into nonsense like this and that forming a negative association with people even though it isn't directly related to the movies themselves.
