  1. Ah shit I keep forgetting to do this. someone tag me if I still haven't done it like right before the deadline. (1/3 of it might be manga adaptations lol)
  2. The club was top 3 for both WW and DOM, Spider-Man is below Aladdin DOM (though probably not after Monday numbers).
  3. Hollywood weekend numbers are kind of boring to be honest. Neither hugely above or below the general expectations. Curious about the legs though.
  4. I would put it a little more delicately than Baumer but Us feels like a movie where they shot the first draft they had. Get Out had like 20+ rewrites and it shows.
  5. So I'm confused, what's going on with Once? Is the number good or bad? I haven't kept up with the thread.
  6. Saw Lion King and Aladdin this week. Lion King was fine for what it was. Aladdin, though...wow. WOW. Now I get why this movie is so damn leggy. What a ride. Tickles your Aladdin nostalgia while doing enough to stand on its own. Supremely entertaining, especially the dancing. Hate to say it, but that 1 billon is earned.
  7. I thought Basterds was a little slow, but I've only seen it once. Hans Landa is one of the best Tarantino characters though... which is weird to say as a Jew. Kill Bill Pt. 1 might not be his "best" movie but it's by far his most entertaining one.
  8. Finally, Spider-Man attains an honor held by the likes of Aquaman.
  9. Think Moore just wanted to show how pathetic fascists were deep down.
  10. The way this thread talks the future of cinema relies on a Charles Manson satire.
  11. FFH is above Homecoming again but Tuesday discounts have gotten more and more popular. 400 seems difficult unless it gets a Labor Day expansion.
  12. TLK will be over/under Incredibles 2. Highly doubt it makes a run at TLJ and TA.
  13. So...my IMAX ten minutes before 1PM showtime: I said before Irvine Spectrum not being on the highest theater list is shocking but damn. There’s construction going on outside the theater, the theater itself is obscured by big boards, so that has to hurt walk ups, but still.
  14. Gonna bug me so much if FFH barely misses 400. Maybe Spidey 3 can beat AOU.
  15. It just depends on if star power can carry this movie. With Hobbs And Shaw you know exactly what you're getting, Johnson and Statham trading barbs, driving, shooting, and kicking ass. The trailers sell the product as much as they can. The trailers for Once Upon A Time have been conservative in my opinion. Maybe they're saving the Manson stuff as a huge spoiler, but I'm just not sure the GA cares enough to see this movie on the promise of "trust us, it'll be good because it's Tarantino." If it wasn't a Tarantino movie I doubt I would even see it just based on the trailers. Just because people want more original movies doesn't mean they'll just see any ol' original movie and hope it's good. Look at Us. Sold with a promising up-and-up director, good trailers and marketing, tons of buzz, it was a big hit.
  16. The problem is the trailers have done nothing to sell the audience on this movie besides "Pitt and DiCaprio hang out in a Tarantino movie." But if it's as crazy as some of the buzz implies, I could see a depressed weekend but strong legs. We will see.
  17. No Irvine Spectrum? I'm surprised, we usually crack top 3-5 for Avengers/Star Wars. Definitely surprised AMC Orange is here but not us. Maybe it's because it's an older community here with less families.
  18. I've been mostly in the weekend thread between some stuff I've been working on. Then I get home and check the board and see Water Bottle's thread... oof. Catching up now in the Avatar 2 thread. Quite a ride. I guess this is what happens when you dedicate your site persona to worshipping a person.
  19. ...what in the fresh hell did I miss on this site today? What a turn of events, yeesh.
  20. Wonder if there is a chance Sony does a Labor Day expansion for FFH to ensure it clears Spider-Man 1 (403.7M) as the biggest domestic Spidey and Jumanji (404.5M) as the biggest domestic Sony picture.
  21. To me, competition that comes after a movie is more meaningful than before it, unless you get a mega-opener like Black Panther or Endgame that just eats into everything else. Logan and Skull Island did well but didn't really rock the boat, both were sub-30 by the time Beauty opened.
  22. The first two weekends after it had 45 million openers, for a movie that had a 90 million three day I would label that as pretty heavy competition, along with Toy Story 4. Yes, the other movies underperformed, but it still had a lot of other shit playing around it while Beauty and Lion King had basically open season. The main reason it's hitting a billion is because of insane domestic holds.
