I don’t understand why you guys care about this stuff. It’s not like James Gunn’s career is going to take a hit because of this.

I repeat, no reason to have a DCU on film at this point. The shared cinematic universe craze is past its prime. If you’re going to just scrap the previous continuity, you might as well focus exclusively on standalone franchises moving forward. I seriously doubt that general audiences would care about seeing a Justice League reboot in 2029 where they fight Starro or Darkseid for the 52nd time.

Supposedly Zaslav and WB were begging Todd Phillips to take the job as the new head of DC Studios before James Gunn was hired. If that’s true, then that sounds just plain desperate. Getting the guy who admitted that he doesn’t care much about superhero movies or comic books to headline your superhero franchise?

Batman is no more integral to the DC Universe than the Fantastic Four historically was to the Marvel Universe, but that didn’t stop the MCU.

I’d say already too late to avoid brand confusion. We currently have three different DC film continuities, and that’s not even getting into whatever the hell that Keanu Reeves Constantine sequel is supposed to be. One thing I can say is that having yet another Batman for whatever the hell the new DCU is supposed to be would be just plain overkill.

KC Walsh also backs up the claim that Gal Gadot is still in the Flash movie, but it looks like Henry Cavill really has been removed.

WB needs to give it a rest with trying to make a shared DC movie universe, and just focus on standalone movies. That bubble is all set to burst.

I can safely say that I would have been more receptive to the news that Henry Cavill is done playing Superman, if we hadn’t had a big deal made over his return just two months ago.

I suppose another possibility is that James Gunn and Matt Reeves lied, and they really are going to incorporate Robert Pattinson’s into the new DCU.

God, this is so stupid. If Marvel was able to thrive for years without Spider-Man or the X-Men, there is no reason a DC Universe shouldn’t be able to thrive without a Batman.

I don’t see how anyone could bother getting excited in DC’s 2023 slate if we know they’re just going to throw everything away. It’s Dark Phoenix all over again, except the movies maybe won’t be as bad.

Come to think of it, didn’t Gunn mention a while back that he prefers writing for properties like the Guardians of the Galaxy and Peacemaker over the big names like Superman and Batman? Wasn’t it also previously claimed that he passed on directing a Superman movie in favor of the Suicide Squad? This comes off as an ironic turn of events.
