Ezra Miller drama aside, I don’t know how much I can really look forward to this movie if this whole continuity is just getting thrown away to make way for a reboot. It doesn’t matter how good this movie apparently is, I don’t see how WB expects people to be excited about a movie that’s basically a cinematic dead end. The only other way I can rationalize this is if the new Superman movie will take place in the post-Flash timeline, and they’ll use that to hand wave why Superman and his supporting cast will be placed by different people, but I don’t think I’d like that. Assuming that’s what the plan is, they might as well have just kept Cavill. The trailer will be attached to the Super Bowl.

All that matters is that this film has made enough to allow 4 and 5 to get made. Not having a Fantastic Beasts situation on their hands is good news for Avatar fans.

Well, we know he was supposed to be a major character before Chadwick Boseman’s passing. In terms of his purpose in what we ended up getting, I’m pretty sure it’s just a way to end the film on a more optimistic note by showing that Shuri’s family isn’t completely gone, and that T’Challa’s legacy will live on.

This could be a make or break film for WBD, if they’re bleeding as much money as these journalists are claiming. I could see why they maybe wouldn’t want to say upfront that they’re cutting ties with the film’s star before release. By the way, is this officially the oldest thread on BOT for a movie that hasn’t been released yet?

That’s all well and good, and I do remember hearing a rumor that Marvel is planning to space things out a bit more after Phase Four proved to be something of a mixed bag for them. At the very least, there’s currently a nine month gap scheduled between The Marvels and Captain America 4, and Secret Wars was moved to 2026, which is much better than releasing it just six months after Kang Dynasty.

I never suggested it looks like Marriage Story. I brought that up to make a point about how unusual it is that these people are involved in a Barbie movie. With that said, I didn’t realize that Gerwig technically wasn’t involved in that movie, but Baumbach did co-write this movie, and Gerwig still isn’t the kind of director you’d associate with a Barbie movie, so the point still stands.

I’m not speaking in terms of quality. A Barbie movie directed and written by the people behind Marriage Story is intriguing for sure, but I don’t know if it’s something that will have much commercial appeal. Plus, this past year hasn’t exactly made a compelling case for Margot Robbie’s ability to get people into a theater.
