  1. Let me tell you, watching Age of Extinction in theaters was a very daunting task for me. I had to force myself not to walk out of the theater before the credits rolled, and I was fresh out of high school back then, so I still had some dumb teenage sensibilities. The movie was just unbearable. There would be no positive to bringing Bay back. His Transformers movies got lazier and lazier as they went on.
  2. To the people arguing that they should bring Michael Bay back for Transformers, whether ironically or not, you guys are aware that Transformers 5 flopped, right? People got sick of Bayformers. The franchise was a big deal in the late 2000s, because there hadn’t really been anything like it before, but the MCU pretty much rendered Bayformers obsolete in the eyes of the average moviegoer.
  3. I’m rooting for Across the Spider-Verse and Dune: Part II in 2023. Unfortunately, I’m finding it difficult to muster up much enthusiasm for the DC slate, assuming they really are doing a full reboot. Oh, and as much as it pains me to say it, I guess it would be worth it if The Little Mermaid is a big hit, just so the “GET WOKE, GO BROKE” crowd would have egg on their faces.
  4. Not exactly surprising. Zachary Levi is like a less successful Chris Pratt. Really, a celebrity deciding to pal around with Joe Rogan is a red flag in general. Rogan sounds like he was trying to restrain himself from completely going off about trans people.
  5. This movie has had a pretty stellar second week. Those JC legs are kicking in.
  6. I think the general concept of a Fantastic Beasts film series was a cute idea, but Rowling ruined it when she insisted on making it some five part prequel series about the conflict between Dumbeldore and Grindelwald, and the prelude to the Wizarding War. Mind you, I’m not necessarily saying that I think a movie focusing solely on Jude Law’s Dumbeldore is a great idea, but it would be far less stupid than a reboot that adapts the seven Harry Potter books again.
  7. I’m honestly kinda glad this film seemingly tanked the franchise, if it means WB won’t be able to run it into the ground. The film as a whole is pretty meh, but in a weird way, I do respect how Lana Wachowski chose to make the kind of stance she did with it.
  8. I think even doing a movie focusing on Jude Law’s Dumbeldore, without all the Fantastic Beasts nonsense, would be preferable to a reboot.
  9. Of course they don’t have to. The problem is that bringing them back would be infinitely more commercially viable than pushing the reset button and bringing in new actors as these characters, so you can retell the same stories that people have already seen.
  10. I can’t imagine that people will be willing to sit through a story they’ve already seen before, which spans eight films that are based on seven books, retold with new actors. That’s like remaking the original Star Wars trilogy, but even more tedious.
  11. I’m feeling a little better about Avatar crossing $600 million than I was a week ago.
  12. I guess we better hope that Oppenheimer does well, otherwise there may be no hope for non-IP adult tentpoles on the big screen.
  13. Cameron’s comments don’t really strike me as a critique of “glorification of violence in media.” It sounds more like a personal preference on his part. As in, excessive gun violence makes him uncomfortable nowadays, so he decided to steer clear of it. This is more or less supposed to be a family movie anyway. The John Wick movies can be as violent as they want, because they’re rated R.
  14. Not a bad hold for Avatar. I assume passing $600 million domestic is definitely attainable now.
  15. WB is attaching the first trailer for The Flash to the Super Bowl. That’s not exactly something you’d do if you only intend to do the bare minimum of advertising.
  16. People still seem to be talking about M3gan. I can’t say I personally get the appeal of Cocaine Bear, though. It looks like it’s trying too hard, and it seems a little weird to take that approach for a movie that’s supposed to be inspired by true events. It seems like the kind of thing that was made under the mistaken assumption that Snakes on a Plane was a hit.
  17. Marvel currently has four movies scheduled for 2025 for the months of February, May, July, and November. If the next Spider-Man movie is getting released in that year, I imagine the most likely month would be December. Five MCU movies in one year is kind of overkill, though.
  18. And here I thought it would take until the third week for people to stop with the doomposting.
  19. Blame NWH. Charlie Cox and Andrew Garfield kept denying that they were in that movie, which was obviously a lie.
  20. I maintain that a large part of TGM’s success can be attributed to a yearning for “the good old days” on the part of boomers and Gen X people. TGM is basically comfort food, while TWoW is a reminder of how much humanity sucks.
  21. She makes more sense as Lois Lane. Hell, she even voiced her in a direct to DVD movie.
