  1. GotG2 is still a pretty zany and irreverent film with poop and dick jokes. I would hope Gunn can stay away from that with Superman, but I don’t know if I believe he can.
  2. I don’t understand this logic. The thing that “got the brand to this point” was Zack Snyder’s vision, and he’s been gone for years now. Its just weird that James Gunn would reboot a universe that he himself had already left his stamp on. That’s what’s surprising.
  3. I’ll just say it; I don’t think Gunn’s writing is a good fit for Superman. His entire shtick is edgy/raunchy comedy that has an irreverent and somewhat cynical streak to it. That’s his trademark, and it’s all over TSS and Peacemaker. A Superman film should be much more earnest and carry a degree of gravitas.
  4. If it weren’t for the fact that there’s supposed to be a second season of Peacemaker, and that James Gunn has repeatedly insisted he has plans for Margot Robbie and Viola Davis, I would’ve been fully convinced at this point that the intention is for a reboot, but as it stands, I have no clue what the hell is going on. I want to say that maybe the idea is for the new Superman to be its own solo universe, akin to Matt Reeves’ Batman, but I have my doubts that James Gunn would want to personally write something like that. That’s why I’m wondering if they’re going to use the events of the Flash movie to justify Superman looking like a different person.
  5. The idea of cutting out Gal Gadot’s scenes so you could retroactively force the Shazam movies into a different continuity is, to put it bluntly, a really stupid idea. Besides, even though his face wasn’t shown, the first movie already showed Superman with Henry Cavill’s suit.
  6. Gal Gadot is supposed to be in the Shazam sequel. That’s not even a spoiler. That was shown at the Cinemacon footage from back in April.
  7. Now that I think about it, I guess they could theoretically have the new Superman movie take place in the post-Flash movie timeline to justify the new Superman.
  8. If the problem some of these “highbrow” critics have with the movie is that it’s overly simplistic and feels more like a tech demo than a movie, then that seems rather hypocritical when you look at all the raves they’ve given for TGM. TGM doesn’t exactly have a complex or thought-provoking story, with three-dimensional characters either. It’s a Jerry Bruckheimer movie that was praised for being fun escapism with some cool aerial set pieces.
  9. Even back in the Summer, there were already a couple of clubs here that set some pretty lofty expectations for this movie. I personally never bought into the idea that this would top TFA as the number one film domestically, but I do think it’ll be rather underwhelming if it comes in at under TGM.
  10. James Gunn has got to be a nightmare for scoopers. You never see Kevin Feige going out of his way to dispute people’s reports.
  11. A lot of Lucasfilm productions have “fallen through.” As for Cleopatra, she’s still supposed to be attached to that as a producer.
  12. It looks like currently still sitting comfortably at 84%, with a 7.4 average score (same as the first one). It’s holding steady.
  13. Eh. I kind of figured based off those reactions that the movie had very little chance of scoring in the 90s range.
  14. Looks like it went up to 85%. This is reminding me of when the initial reviews for Dune didn’t seem so hot, until it stabilized in the low 80%s.
  15. I suppose the good thing about the reviews dropping all at once is that you don’t have to worry about repeating the WW84 blunder, where the score started off high, only to plummet as the movie came closer to release.
  16. Now I’m seeing the RT score back up at 83% with 81 reviews and a 7.3 average rating. I mean, that’s progress.
  17. I’m currently seeing an 80% with 71 reviews, with a 7.2 average rating. Meanwhile, the top critic’s score is 74% with 31 reviews, with a 6.7 average rating.
  18. It looks like it’s going even further than the first one in pushing the stylization. I just hope it doesn’t cause seizures.
