  1. This is certainly not something I expected to hear. I knew Bob Chapek was unpopular, but I didn’t think he’d get ousted this soon after his contract was renewed.
  2. I’m not even especially excited for this, but by God, the cynicism on places like Reddit is already exhausting.
  3. I didn’t think there was a need for another trailer, but maybe now people can stop claiming that Disney’s half-assing the marketing.
  4. For my money, all I can say is that I think people should underestimate James Cameron at their own risk. Titanic and Avatar were expected to flop, and we all know how that turned out. I’m not saying this is guaranteed to beat Top Gun domestically, but if nothing else, I think we should be a little bolder than the $475 prediction.
  5. That’s become the norm at this point. I find it rather annoying, but as long as they don’t do “early access” screenings, I guess I can live with it.
  6. Even if it doesn’t top the original, those would still be disappointing results.
  7. A bunch of weirdos on Twitter, Reddit and YouTube certainly did.
  8. If this is really the end of Twitter, then no one has any right to call Elon Musk a genius ever again.
  9. As far as Disney remakes go, from what little we’ve seen of this movie, it doesn’t look any better or worse than most of the other ones. It looks bland and uninspired, but that’s no different from the remakes of Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin.
  10. Babylon looks like it might be a no at this point on the Best Picture front. TGM is more likely. It’ll be interesting to see if Black Panther 2 and Avatar 2 can also score nominations.
  11. Now that you mention it, I suppose this stuff isn’t even exclusive to Disney. I still remember when Rush Limbaugh tried to claim that Bane from TDKR was a jab at Mitt Romney and Bain Capital. Of course, back then, pretty much everyone rightfully called him out on how stupid that was. I sure do miss those times.
  12. I’m rooting for this movie to be a big hit that outgrosses the original, but I’m not expect a $200 million+ OW. This isn’t TFA. Avatar isn’t on Star Wars’ level just yet in terms of being a long-running franchise that can build an insane amount of hype from iconic imagery and beloved actors reprising their roles. Jake Sully is no Luke Skywalker just yet.
  13. I have no interest in this movie whatsoever, and yet paradoxically, I’m in a position where I kind of want it to succeed, just so all these dumb “DISNEY IS TEH WOKE” dorks on the Internet won’t be able to feel validated like they were when Lightyear flopped. It’s crazy that Disney has become this boogeyman to all these reactionary right-wing personalities, ever since the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy. It’s seriously gotten to the point where the Governor of Florida is trying to wage war on the company. Is this real life?
  14. I’m not saying there’s no chance that they’ll say yes under the right circumstances, but the odds are kind of stacked against Zaslav right now. I’m not exactly surprised that he apparently wants to do a Cursed Child adaptation, but there are a lot of variable that would need to align just right for it to happen.
  15. I watched WF in the standard format, but the teaser looked pretty good on the big screen to me.
  16. Even if Rowling changes her mind, good luck convincing Radcliffe and Watson to come back for that. It’s a tall order is what I’m saying.
  17. The Killmonger cameo was a nice reveal. I had a feeling Ryan Coolger would find a way to sneak him into the movie, but the way the film presented it was pretty effective. This film continues the precedent set by the first film of feeling generally disconnected from the larger narrative of the MCU, which I’m fine with. It helps these films stand on their own far better than the typical Marvel film. I also think it reinforces my belief that Marvel should find someone other than Coogler for Secret Wars. I don’t think something like that would be his style.
  18. The opening should definitely be well into the $100 million range. As for the total, I have no clue. It’s a given that the legs won’t be as good as the first movie, but whether that means the movie’s total will fail to pass the first one is difficult to tell.
  19. It should surely be able to pull that off globally, even without China, otherwise something will be seriously wrong.
