  1. Heh. My neighbor for 10 years in Los Angeles was a film auditor. The guy who got called in when someone thought they were being cheated. He'd then sit in a room somewhere for months and pore over every dollar in and every dollar out. I don't know Star Wars numbers, but I have a pretty good idea on some other franchise level films.
  2. When someone says "you have to add in marketing" and then says "But I don't care about video or toy revenue" you know they're not serious about trying to figure out how much a movie made or lost. Let's be honest- Almost no one on this site makes any effort to understand the real profit/loss of films. It's all about "my favorite franchise rulez, all other franchises drool!!!!"
  3. You don't understand. People want Solo to be the worst in history, so they'll just say it is. Personally I think The Lone Ranger still has that tied up, but realistically we'll never know.
  4. How exciting is this weekend? The thread is consumed with a flop from last weekend and a tiny horror film that's also going to flop in the future. That's how exciting.
  5. Sadly it seems this will be a boring weekend boxoffice-wise. I was hoping something would surprise us.
  6. DP2 is going to make a lot of money and also at the same time make a little less than most people thought. It's fine. It happens.
  7. If they spent $19 million making Action Point (somehow) the could have spent at least that much marketing it. Oh well.
  8. Yeah, I wouldn't have thought 100 for Action Point, but I thought 40s was entirely reasonable. As someone else said, the trailer reactions were always good. One of the few trailers I've seen get a consistently positive reaction. I guess in the end there's no compelling reason not to watch it on video, though.
  9. I'm more interested in this weekend than I have been in a while. We'll see how IW and DP2 can hold on. See if Solo can salvage anything. See if Book Club is gonna make a long run. And three new openers which could all surprise one way or the other.
  10. Action Point cost $19 million somehow. And Adrift was $35 million. Both notably higher than I expected, to be honest.
  11. Yeah, I mean even the most casual box office watcher would know better than to predict a $60 million 2nd weekend off a $83 million 1st. Very odd.
  12. I can't imagine why THR predicts $60 million for Solo this weekend. Insanity.
  13. Yeah, reading a spoiler synopsis and the cinemascore is going to be terrible on this one.
  14. Well, that second trailer is much better than the first, at least for me. Surprised by that RT score, I gotta say.
  15. I mean, all I wanted from Solo is 2 hours of the universe this scene implied. They didn't nail it, but it's not like they were a million miles away.
  16. Regarding the budget, I still maintain that's the thing you really can pin on Kennedy. She hired a directing team that came from animation and improv, two areas where the script is just a starting point and time is relatively plentiful. That wasn't suitable for a movie like Solo, and she should have known better.
  17. But don't listen to me. I keep trying to pitch a Watto / Unkar Plutt go to Canto Bight road movie. "We can't stop here. This is mynoc country!"
