Yeah, they're garbage and use movies (Marvel and Transformers movies are the two biggest ones) to sell their propaganda around the world.

Because Pikachu didn't have a national holiday on Monday? I remember you started panicking almost like this when Pika released too, eventhough the numbers here will end up being better for a film with this budget.

It's a crappy remake of a film American audiences probably would have hated. Of course, they didn't like this film. Another fox flop I guess.

I'm wondering if walk-ups weren't as good as expected because there weren't as many kids as people on the tracking thread expected? My screening was 75% full and had 5-7 kids in total. Edit: Posttrak disagrees.

There is one thing I loved about this movie. The DoD is portrayed as a complete joke and I found every scene involving them to be hilarious. I agree with the tweet that the movie is a better exploration of the military industrial complex than the biggest movie franchise of all time (which frequently features the DoD and the military).

Yeah, they're likely taking the biggest hit out of all the major studios because of this. I'm wondering if this will end up being their worst year in a long time.

I really don't see this be a franchise starter. They'll probably get one sequel but I just don't see it going on after that if that film is just "competent" too. They should at least fast track the sequel to 2022 if they want the second film to do well too because if it releases anytime later than that than that, they'll just get a Angry Birds 2. But the fact that this is looking to be a big hit is probably good enough for Paramount. Same thing if they make a direct sequel to Detective Pikachu. But if Legendary actually goes forward with a another Pokemon movie, I doubt it's going to be connected to Detective Pikachu.

I just cannot see this movie happen with old Sonic. There's way too much shit that happens that it requires him to be cute to happen. Also, the eyelines matched Sonic's head whenever they were talking to him eventhough the older version was taller.

But I agree with what he says here. This really doesn't feel like a Sonic film. Imo, it has more in common with the Hop movie than anything Sonic related. Jim Carrey brings something to it I guess but other than it, eh. Way too many outdated pop culture references too. I'd have liked the film a bit more if Sonic didn't act like a teen who spends all his time on the internet. Just not a fan of the concept of the movie itself. Give me a Sonic movie with the visuals and absurdity of Speed Racer though, that would be awesome. Edit: There was also some decent character work at the start too but it's not really carried on past the first act. Still a much better option to take kids to than Dolittle (which is literally the worst film I've seen in about 4 years). At least kids will have fun watching it and won't lose any brain cells.

This looks completely different from Lowery's past films. It seems like he's furthering his style away from his clearly Terrence Malick influenced style with each movie he makes to something that's more unique to him and I love that. This looks pretty amazing too.

I loved Detective Pikachu's production value. The movie looked really nice (especially with that 35 mm film) and the CGI was amazing, but that last act was so dumb.

Just realised that I also had Sonic Rivals 2 on my PSP. Can't remember anything about it though. Tbf, I can't remember any of the games I played on my PSP except for a Ben 10 game and a Ratchet and Clank Size Matters (only reason I even remember this game is because I broke my PSP when playing it)
