  1. Lol, I think they had Joker as an Artisan film but not The Farewell, Little Women, or Hustlers. They sure as hell are doing what they said they would.
  2. I think if Mangold or Gerwig gets in the last Director spot instead of Philips, then FvF or Little Women gets into BP respectively. Mangold could get in if FvF gets a lot of techie noms (although Mendes already looks like the techie Best Director nom) and Gerwig could get in because Little Women has been getting a lot of love and Gerwig's snub in the Globes and BAFTAs has been getting backlash.
  3. Yeah, I guess you're right about Parasite. FvF is probably getting the spot I put Parasite down for. Lol, I forgot about Song Kang-ho. I just said a few hours ago that he was a lock for supporting actor and have him down on my list. Don't know how I missed him. Also removed Robbie from OUATIH and put her down for Bombshell (she's great in both movies and is the best part of the latter but liked her more in OUATIH). Joker's gonna lead the noms I guess then and twitter is gonna explode.
  4. 750k would put it on track for about 20 mil OW right? Don't know how frontloaded a movie like this would be. Nutcracker (fantasy movie with heavy reshoots, troubled production, and zero marketing) made 20 mil from a 625k Thursday.
  5. Sinister and The Exorcism of Emily Rose are pretty good movies though and the former is espescially cleverly written. I haven't seen Hellraiser Inferno but I enjoyed the first two so I don't see why Inferno would be fun too. The Day the Earth Stood still was bad though but I don't see how just that movie makes him a bad director.
  6. I mean 4 of those were directed by the Russos though. The other 4 directors only directed 5 of the last 14.
  7. Number of nominations for all my BP nominee predictions - OUATIH: 12 (Picture, Director, Actor, Supp. Actor, Original Screenplay, Cinematography, Editing, Makeup, both Sounds, Costume Design, Production Design) Joker: 11 (Picture, Director, Actor, Score, Adapted Screenplay, Cinematography, Editing, Makeup, both Sounds, Production design) The Irishman: 9 (Picture, Director, Supp. Actor x 2, Adapted Screenplay, Cinematography, Editing, Production Design, Visual Effects) 1917: 8 (Picture, Director, Cinematography, Score, Production Design, both Sounds, Visual Effects) Parasite: 7 (Picture, Director, Supp. Actor, Original Screenplay, Editing, Foreign Film, Production Design) Little Women: 6 (Picture, Actress, Supp. Actress, Adapted Screenplay, Costumes, Score) Marriage Story: 5 (Picture, Actor, Actress, Supp. Actress, Original Screenplay) Jojo Rabbit: 5 (Picture, Supporting Actress, Adapted Screenplay, Costume, Score) Alt to Little Women/9th nominee- Knives Out: 2 (Picture, Original Screenplay)
  8. I think Knives Out still has a shot at BP nom eventhough it missed SAG. Right now I would say the 8th spot is between Knives Out and Little Women.
  9. Derrickson had a much more unique vision than most MCU directors though. I would put him below Whedon, Coogler, Gunn, Waitti, and the Russos in terms of vision I guess but he's above the other directors.
  10. He won't. Lost a lot of buzz early on. I'd say Supporting Actor is pretty much locked with Brad Pitt, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, Tom Hanks, and Song Kang-ho. If Song Kang-ho was gonna be replaced, I'd put Anthony Hopkins after Song Kang-Ho and then Jamie Foxx behind Hopkins.
  11. So you think that if Ari Aster became the director like people were suggesting, there would be less conflicts than there was now regardless of what the conflicts were?
  12. I used The Revenant Friday including previews as a comp to make my 40 mil prediction but just found that The Revenant's Thursday previews gross made up a smaller percentage of its Friday compared to 1917 so I guess you're right with that 37 mil prediction. Was hoping it could do 40 mil though.
  13. I find it funny that Derrickson left because of "creative differences" but people keep picking horror and more obscure directors. Most choices people are throwing around are gonna create larger differences. The only choice I think that works is Travis Knight. Not a big fan of his work but he probably fits within the MCU group of directors.
  14. I would say that still puts 1917 for over 40 mil and Just Mercy should be able to cross 10 mil OW. Not so good for Like a Boss. Might not even cross 10 mil imo. Also, how bad are Underwater numbers?
  15. This movie was mostly garbage. It's not critical enough and it's not clever enough to actually work. The script tries hard to be a McKay film at times but fails because Roach is such a bland director. Almost the entirety movie is political posturing and filled with useless exposition and try-haed quirky scenes that don't work at all. The movie tries to be an empowering feminist tale but it comes off as pretty unsatisfying because Kelly and Carlson were shown as heroes when they really aren't (reminds me of that terrible Margaret Thatcher movie starring Meryl Streep). This could have easily been a great and complex film but it decides to take an extremely shallow and narrow point of view that's just boring to watch. Margot Robbie stole the show though and Theron was great. McKinnon as a fake right-winger who was actually a lesbian dem was hilarious too. 4/10
  16. Just Mercy got an A+ just like I expected. There's a good chance that it becomes WB's first adult drama success since A Star is Born.
  17. r/movies dislikes Captain Marvel and Ant-Man 2 even more tho. GOTG 2 is divisive and Black Panther also gets a crapton of "it was good but overrated" comments. The only solo movies I think they really liked after Dr Strange are the two Spider-man movies and Ragnarok.
  18. Went to the official Doctor Strange discussion thread that was posted when the movie released and the top comments on there seem pretty positive to me.
  19. Auteur theory is a myth propagated by egotistical directors (which are most directos). Every film has multiple people working together as a team and really is more a team effort than something that was all done by the director.
