The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo
Felandria replied to grim22's topic in Numbers and Data
I’m interested to know how other theaters are booking Dune in terms of number of showtimes and auditorium selection. looking at Disney Springs, while Dune looks to have 4 screens worth of booking, it’s interesting to note that they only snagged two of the four prime auditoriums, the Dolby and one of the two 300 seaters, the other 300 and the huge 500+ both got taken by Ron’s Gone Wrong, and even with the Disney/Fox connection, that’s rather shocking. they also shoved HK almost entirely into dine in theaters, aside from a lone evening show. for the weekend, Dune is looking at only 14 showings a day, which seems kind of low even with a longer running time, DS has some space they could have cleared out, too, they still have two shows for Dear Evan Hansen, three for Jungle Cruise and one for Black Widow! anyone seen indication that other theaters might be punishing Dune a little for WB’s sins? -
Regarding the Suicide Squad thing, look at another example, the recentish live action TMNT movies. The first one made a ton of money, but left a bad taste in people’s mouths, when it came time for the sequel, they threw everything at it to win people back. Casey Jones, Bebop and Rocksteady, Baxter Stockman, Krang, all the favorites, and it still made less than half of the first one, despite generally being regarded as an improvement.

Just got out of the 10:15 in the BIG theater at Disney Springs and it played like absolute gangbusters, obviously it’s a venue where that would be expected, it should be noted. But the crowd, myself included, loved it, several big laughs, couple of names got applause in the end credits, generally felt buzzier than Black Widow did.

Even with these numbers, I don’t know what Disney Springs was thinking giving Paw Patrol full showtimes in the 500+ seat theater. They’re showing it at 10PM in that auditorium, I think they sold one ticket for for it yesterday at that time. I mean, nothing is gonna fill it, but surely they could be showing Jungle Cruise in that slot instead. As for Free Guy, it must be said that, above all else, this is a BIG win for theatrical comedies.

That Tuesday drop for Green Knight is troubling

I saw it Friday afternoon at Disney Springs, which, let’s be honest, is the place to see a Disney ride movie. especially when a group of over a dozen people sat near us in the balcony, all of whom were absolutely cracking up when Rock was making the ride jokes. of course we figured out they were all actual Jungle Cruise skippers. can’t think of a better way to see it.

Let’s see. I saw Back to the Future, Muppets Christmas Carol, Jurassic World, Empire Strikes Back, Emperor’s New Groove, Clue, Hunt for Red October and Die Hard before stuff was coming out, because I could find empty showings and feel safer. Ive seen Tenet, WW84, Nobody, Raya, GVK, MK, Black Widow, F9, Cruella, Boss Baby 2, Space Jam 2, Wrath of Man, Top Gun and Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard. I wash my hands, wear my mask, sanitize, everything you’re supposed to do and I got Vaxxed as soon as I possibly could

Has anyone else been aware of the issues AMC has been having all week, their website and app were practically nonfunctional on Tuesday and people have been reporting issues all week. So, for example, presales across the board at Disney Springs have been looking thin, most of the showtimes weren’t opened up until Tuesday. I saw the 2:15 in a 300 seat auditorium, maybe 15-20 were sold as of last night, it there were way more than I expected in there today, possibly over 100. dont be surprised if walk up from AMC are unusually strong. also, Space Jam 2 was better than the original and it wasn’t even close.

Funniest part is all Rock has to do is make one call and Kevin Hart is taking that slot. -

Yes. Christmas 2005 Uni put The Producers out in theaters, but they also released Munich the same day and Kong the week before so Producers got dumped basically because Uni was too busy pushing the Spielberg and Jackson movies.
