  1. How is the previous weekend selling? I could see it being for holdovers.
  2. I guess by starting an alternate timeline? But then the Avengers did that too, so I don't really get it either. Tbh this show worries me a bit. The Endgame time travel worked well enough but if the MCU keeps doing it the continuity could get really confusing. Anyway, huge start on Youtube. 75k likes in the first hour. This will crush the record for most liked non-GOT TV trailer. It could beat GOT s8 as well.
  3. I always labeled my predictions as optimistic. High-end predictions shouldn't be taken as an indicator of what would be a good number. 48 is not that different from 50 anyway.
  4. Very underloved arc. Though Zillo beast was clearly from the name a Godzilla homage, he had enough uniqueness in the design and personality that I felt for him as a character, just as I would in a good kaiju movie. I hope the ending twist of that arc is eventually paid off in future SW.
  5. Pure theatrical, I think. Which is why I think it has a decent shot at winning the summer.
  6. Yeah, you're right there. Not many options for May. I think the May numbers will really undersell what BO potential is actually there at that time in the market, as unless you're a horror person it'll be very barren. Makes the Black Widow move even more annoying.
  7. That leans too heavily on horror. I don't think a genre which tends to be kinda polarizing with audiences is the best choice to rely on completely.
  8. I agree with most of this but I would say that plenty of people enjoy the theater experience, and much of that is created by chain theaters since indies are a pretty small component.
  9. Regardless of whether Cinemark played it, Raya wouldn't have gotten the numbers of GvK. It just didn't have the buzz.
  10. Yeah, I also thought the score was rather generic. Overall, though, it was a very entertaining film. I'd probably rank the Monsterverse something like: 1. GvK 2. Skull Island 3. Godzilla 4. KOTM The first three are all pretty interchangeable, all quite solid and entertaining films. The 2014 Godzilla is probably the closest to being "great" as the last 2/3 of the film are really excellent filmmaking, but I found the first act pretty awkward and weak. Skull Island is the most consistently entertaining but, other than Kong's excellent intro, is lacking in the "wow" moments of the other films. GvK had a shakier script than those two but has a lot of fun with the material, and the Hollow Earth sequence followed by the final fight in Hong Kong is my favorite sequence of all four films. KOTM is the worst by far with a bad and boring human storyline, though it had enough cool moments that I still enjoyed it.
  11. The beginning of the movie was awful with a bunch of pointless convoluted plotlines set up. It picks up once Ghidorah awakens, and any moment with the monsters on screen is a delight (especially Rodan's awakening, that was one of the few times I got the sense of scale like Godzilla 2014). The direction is a step down from the previous film, but the monster action is still pretty cool. The issue is, the movie is a chore to watch whenever the monsters aren't on screen. I'll give it a C, in terms of overall filmmaking it's worse than that but it has enough cool moments with the monsters that I find it watchable despite the awful script.
  12. Very entertaining film. It's got style and moves at a fast pace. Although I wouldn't say the characters are great, they are good enough that I'm invested in their fates (which is more than I can say for some of these monster movies). Samuel L. Jackson's villain was a highlight, you can tell that he had a lot of fun with that role. I do wish though that the action hadn't peaked early with the first encounter with Kong, everything after that kinda pales in comparison. I loved the auroras on Skull Island and I liked that they used different ancient species than just dinosaurs. Overall it was very solid throughout although I wouldn't say it ever quite reached great. B+.
  13. I don't buy that. Samuel L. Jackson was the best part of Skull Island.
  14. Overall I really enjoyed this. Script-wise it's better than KOTM but worse than 2014 and K:SI, but what it lacks in plot/character it makes up for in some really nice worldbuilding and visuals. The Hollow Earth sequence was bar none my favorite out of all of these Monsterverse films, I liked the aesthetic of the Apex vehicles and the Godzilla/Kong fighting itself was great fun. The movie did a great job building up Kong, Godzilla was a bit underserved but when he came in it was awesome. Mechagodzilla was also quite cool. I'll give it a B+, very entertaining and perhaps my favorite of the Monsterverse films so far. Wish I could have seen it on a big screen (maybe it'll still be there when I'm finally vaccinated).
  15. I know that but even BvS only dropped 33% on Easter Sunday. Ready Player One dropped 28.5%. 35% is quite harsh. You do have a point that they probably would have fudged it already if they were going to, but I still think it's a small possibility.
  16. Typo. Notice how they said it was +73% which was the Friday jump. They forgot to update with the Saturday number.
  17. I think @WandaLegion said something like 9.5*5.2 for the 5-day on Monday or Tuesday, so props because that looks like it will be almost exactly on the dot.
  18. Doesn't seem flat to me. MTC 1/2 numbers last morning were significantly lower than these. It was like 2.2 million vs 2.68 million here. Remember that those numbers Keyser posted are from the morning, just only posted now.
  19. My goal is that it beats the trailer they released during the pandemic, at least. That one only did 631k likes. I wonder if it may just be that it's hard to restart the hype train after you've shut it down multiple times.
  20. I watched it again and it seems to be that LeBron is animated when the animation is 2D and when it switches to (so-called) 3D animation he goes back to live-action. Tbh I don't like seeing the Looney Tunes in that style. It feels wrong.
  21. Looks kinda eh compared to the first one which I really enjoyed. What was the need to animate LeBron when MJ was live-action in the first? And especially when in other shots of the trailer, he's shown playing basketball in the Server-verse in live action? Is this going to be a plot point? I also think putting in all these extra WB characters dilutes the charm of the Looney Tunes. But the trailer is getting good buzz. I think this movie will surprise on the upside.
