Yeah, plus there are also the network effects (like if those frequent moviegoers are buzzing about a movie, it might inspire casual audiences to take a closer look, and if that effect isn't there then casual moviegoers won't bother). And there is also the fact that people are seeing each other less in-person, which I don't think (could be wrong, not super informed here) is the case in countries whose Covid spread is controlled enough that theaters are back to normal. It could be that lack of person-to-person interaction prevents the spreading of buzz for a film. And then that could compound internationally as I think it is possible that if a Hollywood film isn't getting buzz in the USA, that could lessen the buzz OS. Definitely a lot of considerations here.

Yeah usually not. Rentals are good enough for me. -

It's not really economical for me, especially since I have D+ and so will get to see it with no extra charge in a few months anyway. Theatrical provides a different experience at least. -

Yeah and Moana $248 million, which had imo much better marketing than Raya. -
If Raya had a scenario like this: failed in the USA with maximum possible theaters, and was more successful in China/SK, then I could see Disney taking that into account for Black Widow. But this performance seems like it just kinda failed everywhere including places where BO is back to normal, which means that it may have never been that successful even without COVID. So I don't know that this should affect the thinking around Black Widow.

Some of my friends dropped WandaVision after 2 minutes so this will definitely be more satisfying for them. Personally my preference is for the more "cosmic" (either space or magic-based MCU stories) but this still looks entertaining and very much in the vein of the Cap movies (all of which I loved).

Great: Avengers: Endgame Avengers: Infinity War Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Very good: Spider-Man: Far From Home Captain America: Civil War Black Panther Spider-Man: Homecoming The Avengers Thor: Ragnarok Guardians of the Galaxy Thor Captain America: The Winter Soldier Captain America: The First Avenger Good: Wandavision (tentatively) Ant-Man and the Wasp Ant-Man Captain Marvel Iron Man Flawed but entertaining: Iron Man 3 Avengers: Age of Ultron Doctor Strange Meh: Iron Man 2 Thor: The Dark World Haven't seen the Incredible Hulk

I think same for me that Episode 6 is where I realized they were going for something more small-scale (though I did still enjoy that). I expect FATWS and Loki to be of about similar quality to WandaVision (for me mid-tier MCU), and probably BW and Shang-Chi will be relatively mid-tier quality solo films as well. I'll probably still enjoy and be entertained by those, but my next hope for really great MCU is Eternals.

Your overall point has a good degree of truth, but I take issue a bit with the reasoning behind BP's success. Black Panther's domestic audience was about 35% black. So even normalizing that to the usual percentage for the MCU, it would still come out to over $500 million which is incredible for a solo film. Even in countries where the performance was weaker, it didn't do that much less than typical MCU solos.

The actual rating might be lower than the last episode (will probably end up around what episode 7 had) but the number of ratings seems to be higher than previous episodes at this point in time, actually. And like I said in my previous post, just look https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=now 7-d&geo=US&q=%2Fg%2F11h4v6h9f5. The trend chart shows pretty clearly that the search interest in WandaVision even at non-peak hours is about 50% higher than it was last week. I can't say for certain bc Google Trends has a weird interface, but I think its quite likely that the initial spike at midnight Pacific was probably even bigger of an increase than that. You can say the finale didn't get the buzz you wanted, whatever, that's subjective. But it's factually wrong to say that it got lower buzz than last week's episode.
