  1. I enjoyed KOTM despite the not so good human story, so I will probably enjoy this. The action was good in that film when they weren't unnecessarily cutting to the humans. Was hoping to see it in theaters but still looking forward to this, looks like the monster fights will be good.
  2. I find the mystery pretty compelling and the sitcom parts funny, so I guess I disagree with FilmCritHulk here (which I often do). For me, the issue with mystery boxes is if there's nothing inside the box. There's nothing wrong with them in and of themselves.
  3. Episodes keep getting better. Humor landed significantly better in this one and the reveals were quite intriguing.
  4. Used to think of this as one of the lesser MCU films, but on a rewatch, it's honestly one of the better ones and perhaps the best of the origin stories. The Thor/Jane romance is a little odd and seems forced, the visuals are decent but nothing unprecedented (other than the phenomenal end credits) but the story is strong and earnest, the humor works and is different from the usual Marvel style, the lead performances are great, and the dialogue is pretty sharp. There are a lot of well-done emotional moments, Hemsworth is charismatic and charming as Thor, and Loki was already one of the best onscreen supervillains in one appearance. Another point that I really appreciated was the efficiency of the action scenes, none dragged on too long, and all were impactful and entertaining without needing to provide empty spectacle. A very strong film and not that far behind Ragnarok as the best of the trilogy. A-
  5. Most people seem to like it from what I've seen. I don't really see how the shifts could be jarring either.
  6. Enjoying it quite a bit so far and excited to see where this leads. Agree with the criticism that jokes could land better, but there's enough charm and mystery to keep me quite invested.
  7. I think it will settle in the mid 7s on imdb to start, but rise as we get farther into the plot. Some backlash was inevitable, so that's decent enough.
  8. Reviews seem to be solid. The biggest criticism seems to be that the jokes are inconsistently funny, but people seem to enjoy the performances and the mystery.
  9. The biggest difference I can see is viewing "Clone Cadets" before/after "Rookies". It plays differently for sure. Most of the other out-of-order stuff doesn't make a big difference either way in my experience.
  10. I watched in broadcast order on Netflix originally, did chronological in my rewatch last January. I don't think it makes a huge difference and both orders have their trade-offs. The movie feels like a more natural starting point than "Cat and Mouse", but at the same time chronological allows for some interesting arcs to be put together ("Supply Lines" and "Ambush" for one).
  11. I think the second is a better idea. It just feels weird to have Jane take someone else's name. She-Hulk is a different case because Hulk isn't Banner's actual name.
  12. I don't get the renaming thing. This is like saying Sam should be called "Steve Rogers" now because he has the shield.
  13. I think something like Dragon 2 is likely with a decent but not huge increase WW. Can't see the TDK level breakout unless the sequel gets incredibly good marketing and buzz.
  14. Focus schmocus, Thor + Guardians is a great combination so I'd love to see plenty of that. Also the Guardians are fun and Jane is boring, though hopefully Taika will change the latter.
  15. I don't think that was a real theme of Aquaman, that was just the villain's motivation (I felt the overall theme was more related to what kind of person is deserving of power). There are inconsistencies (especially with Civil War and the first Wonder Woman) in how each of those films handle their larger themes, but I think all were still better executed than WW84. Black Panther, for example, makes a pretty coherent statement about the duty of nations which is far more convincing and effective than anything WW84 has to say.
  16. I guess what I'm trying to say is that you could remove the opening scene and there would be no real difference in understanding of the film. The competition is basically just a metaphor to illustrate the film's theme. I'm not saying it's wrong to have an opening scene like that, but framing the film in that way imo makes it more annoying when the theme is muddled. The mall stuff was somewhat plot-related because it gives the viewer information of what Diana has been doing since the end of the first film.
  17. What I mean is with the monologues about truth and stuff like that. Also the opening scene having no relation to the plot and only existing for a metaphorical purpose. You didn't see that in a movie like Aquaman, for example.
  18. Max being slowly killed and Barbara losing her goodness was the price, though. The wishes themselves were granted perfectly. Yeah but other superhero films usually don't try to explicitly push their themes as much as this does, so that makes the inconsistencies stand out much more.
