  1. Yeah that's true. I've checked around a few theaters and many of them only have one or two if any at all.
  2. Idk about that though. It's not like AMATW which was marketed as just a fun comedy standalone adventure. It's being sold as a continuation of Endgame and the second trailer makes significant references to the events of Endgame.
  3. Yeah, I probably shouldn't have used "disastrous". Tbh it's kinda fun not knowing how this is going to play. Midnight previews aren't a tradition anymore really, so who knows how it'll go?
  4. Amazing Spider Man did 850,000 in midnights according to BOM, and had a 138 million 6-day opening. So it seems to be ok, but in 2012 previews/early showings weren't as much of a thing as they are now. Edit: But the chart that you posted says 7.5 million in midnights which would make 1.5-2 look disastrous for FFH. Idk because I wasn't following BO when that one was released. Edit 2: So 7.5 was apparently the number, but I assume that was from midnight to 6 am. But where is the 850k from then? Was there a limited release/sneak preview on Monday?
  5. I won't say "low" expectations, but I'm going to expect I2 level (very good but a step down from the great predecessor) until reviews actually come out. After all, social media reactions are liable to always be glowing.
  6. That would make it the highest grossing run of all time by a hair. Then all would be up to Disney.
  7. Oh yes, I experienced the same thing with Incredibles 2 and my friend group. That's why I was so surprised that Toy Story 4 had such a strong day 1 compared to I2, but it has come back down to about where I expected. And yeah @Porthos the 8th place on Fandango is definitely very good, points to a sure 100+ opening but I2 was a different beast entirely, it was at 4th at the same point in time at least going by this thread page 600.
  8. I still think FFH is getting a late surge after MIB opens. The MCU has never been more popular than it is now, and Spidey has now been in 2 massive Avengers movies which should make up for no Iron Man. So I'd be surprised if it doesn't beat Homecoming, question is by how much.
  9. FFH is now at 255k Maoyan want to see. Does anyone know any comparisons for CM or other solo movies? Edit: Well AMATW was 241k a week before release and BP was 265k a couple days before so it seems to be doing pretty well for 18 days before release
  10. So since this week is gonna be another depressing BO weekend I went and looked through the daily comps of TS4 vs I2 to see if there was any difference in distribution between the two at the same point. TS4 (11 days before previews) - Thurs: 3775, Fri: 3396, Sat: 2843, Sun: 1516 I2 (11 days before previews) - Thurs: 6972, Fri: 5885, Sat: 4842, Sun: 2639 So TS4 is pacing well behind I2 for every day, but it looks like the internal distribution of TS4 is only marginally less Thursday-heavy. So if it gets a 15 million Thursday like @Porthos predicts then that would probably imply a weekend of 150ish. However it is much farther behind I2 than I expected based on those comps, but that could be due to demographic differences in the audience as @CoolEric258 said
  11. I agree, I also had thought the hype was bigger than Captain Marvel, hence why I made an FFH over AoU club. But it definitely has had lower presales than I thought it would. akvalley's report page is now updated and has numbers for TS4 and other movies up to FFH's opening, but no FFH unfortunately. I would have been very interested to see the distribution of sales for it.
  12. I agree the lighting/colors were better in IW. But I still found the battle in EG to be extremely well shot. Like the shot of Cap standing alone is one of the best in the MCU, and the whole scene did an amazing job of capturing the feel of a comic book. The sheer scale of the scene and the amount of wow moments really was what made it trump IW for me. Though I loved the action in IW, other than Thor's entrance it wasn't quite as fulfilling as that in EG. And to your other point, that "messiness", I guess of EG is part of what I love about it. I really liked the slower-paced, more emotional first and second acts and then the lightning-fast ramp up in the third. It was a very enjoyable contrast.
  13. I think the main factor is that Captain Marvel had a Super Bowl spot that really boosted awareness for it. It shows in the days before and after how it got a big boost. FFH hasn't had anything comparable which will make the numbers seem unrealistically poor. Still, it was pacing below CM even before that point, so I think there's room for a little bit of concern. Panic, obviously not. But it's possible that this will be closer to a Homecoming-type event than CM.
  14. To be honest Endgame did quite well in capturing a gigantic amount of the youth and genre-oriented market. TFA had a bit of an advantage in that the historic nature of SW allows people who aren't that into genre films to be interested in watching it. But yeah, there was definitely a cap on its audience compared to something like Titanic. I'd wager a similar or maybe greater number of people thought IW was too fast paced and Endgame was a better pace though. I'm skeptical of the claim that IW got more rewatches than Endgame anyway. A lot of people rewatched Endgame within the first two weeks.
  15. What? Obviously no movie can please everyone but the vast majority of fans loved EG, which can be seen in every possible metric of audience reception
  16. I saw it as more of a lie/gaslighting than a duality. In the beginning both Yon Rogg and the Intelligence tell her that she needs to control her emotions, even though it's pretty clear to the audience that she's stable. Later when she realizes she has a history on Earth she pours out her emotions to You Rogg and he gaslights her by telling her it was Skrull trickery. In that moment she's very vulnerable, and you can see how she's dependent on the Kree for her identity. Then when she realizes she's been lied to, she's able to regain her own sense of identity due to the affirmation of her best friend. So the struggle is not really about emotions but about identity. I do think there's more depth in this movie than you're giving it credit for.
  17. I think the performance of a second trailer will show how much interest is really there for this, I could see it going either way rn
  18. I thought the whole point was that she had been told that she had problems with her emotions, but really her emotions were not a problem and were in fact a strength
  19. All I can say is, I was at least entertained by every other X-men movie despite some of them being quite flawed. This is the first one where I've been flat out bored/annoyed throughout the second half.
  20. Rocketman's OW had 45% under 30. I don't think that's even all that different from an adult-skewing tentpole franchise like SW. And even though Rocketman would have a higher percentage of older audiences than a CBM doesn't mean that it would have a higher number. Something like Infinity War or Endgame has a total gross so much higher that they would pull in a much higher number of older viewers than Rocketman.
  21. Yup. Also I feel like Star Wars is an example of a tentpole franchise that has a very high adult appeal. TLJ's OW was 65% over 25 according to PostTrak.
  22. Idk about the 40-60 age group specifically but Endgame's OW demographics were 54% under 25, 46% over 25. There are plenty of adults interested in CBMs.
