  1. forgive me Jim for my observation, but isn’t stranger things the one piece of media were the kids actually do look their age?
  2. Ok actually with all these new reactions coming in I think it could be leaning more towards the high 70s to low 80s……lets hope even better 😎
  3. Ok hot take…..as much as I appreciate Jim’s ambition, (something Hollywood could use more of)with the epic vibrant special effects world building of Pandora, there’s something off with the avatar characters,it’s in the way they move in that motion capture “wiggly sort of way”.You know, you see it in all the motion capture films of the past, pay attention to films like tin tin and polar express I can’t help but feel the film would have been better had it been animated straight by “real” animators from the conception of the process. But knowing Jim(look at his previous opinion that the avatar performances is not a credit in some ways to animators) he’s probably too sophisticated to actually be associated to be making a straight animated film.(even though ironically the performances would be more sophisticated). Just a thought……probably not representative of his opinion’s but just a thought🤓. Don’t come at me 😜
  4. Tbh I wasn’t really paying attention to all the investigations so I guess I’ll take it for what it is .
  5. I don’t know if someone pointed this out yet but this whole Will Smith thing was most definitely staged to get more buzz and ratings for the oscars
  6. Hmm you mean “Drive my car” and “Licorice pizza”? Interesting, perhaps the academy is signaling a higher chance for both at this point.
  7. Villeneuve’s snub seems simple to me,the academy tends to nominate the director for the film that has a higher chance of winning best picture (like if there were just five nominees.)and dunes chances relative to the others is not as high.
  8. That’s one of the reasons why I love the film so much.Unlike another underdog story like say “Cinderella” where we see Cinderella’s family as the main antagonist of her life;Encanto puts everyone in perspective.By not framing any one as the villain your able to get to the core of the family trauma.Instead of running away, the protagonist is gained an insight on what caused the toxicity in the first place.Resulting in a story about the true healing of a family.
  9. Yep after seeing it a second time I can confirm that it’s my favorite Disney or Pixar film since “tangled”.It’s a film overflowing with warmth and empathy, perfect comfort film for any down day. I see for some reason the film isn’t resonating as much with most(I mean the film is already at 7.4 on IMDb).I guess it’s one of those films that if you relate to the theme and story it will resonate more…….oh well.
  10. In what way authentic? Is it how its based on something more personal rather than political?
  11. If the world was fair this film will open up peoples minds (mainstream society at large) about how animation has the ability to bring characters to life in a very:real, intimate, and empathetic way.Which ultimately can perhaps be more powerful than even live action,as you can see yourselves in them for the fact that it’s not someone else acting out a character but an animated character with deeply expressive eyes that can almost be as an avatar to you. As you can see I’m really passionate about the medium of animation especially as it pertains to the character animation aspect of it. Also what’s interesting about the conversation surrounding the medium is that when adult animation fans try to talk about how great of a medium animation is they tend to always bring up foreign films,as those films do to be fair deal with more mature subject matter, but the Disney films from the states are the ones that are and we’re from the beginning always at the forefront of one little tiny powerful aspect of this medium, that being the art of character animation and for me that’s what sets this medium against live action. It’s this idea that you can take something that’s obviously not real and make it come alive from your soul to your hand to ultimately on the paper (or computer). For me that’s pure art right there. In fact I might go as far to say that is perhaps the ultimate form of communication art can give to an audience. Yes I know I’ve gon pretty long (and the punctuation is probably not all that good)but I just felt I had to get something out to say.I guess I should actually work in this medium instead of rambling on and on about it.😜
  12. The studio probably wants to focus on more internal character growth, something that you could lose with a traditional villain.
  13. Just came back, and I have to say we have a new classic on our hands.Perhaps some reviews are not as passionate like say a Pixar film for the film doesn’t have the ambitions of the “what if ideas “ like said studio. But there’s a real intimacy to the film, particularly shown through the subtle and sophisticated character animation. And the song sequences are so fun and colorful with a particular focus on great choreography-something not usually shown in an animated musical.I also really appreciate the character driven aspect of the film as opposed to a big complicated adventure. It also has this unique but familiar feel to it in how it’s still a “Disney fantasy musical” but more intimate and character based.I mean this when I tell you that the film has that potential of wide emotional appeal like something of “coco”.Go see it and bring your whole family……you’ll perhaps feel more connected to them after seeing this magical film.
  14. One thing to point out:Frozen2 is the rare unplanned from the beginning sequel to a film, were the central ark feels needed and necessary,to the point that without said ark the character’s story wouldn’t be complete.(……..Of course I’m referring to ……”show yourself”.)
  15. Random observation but Timothee Chalamet kind of has the same character/personality as Pixar director Pete Docter.(especially when doing interviews or on the red carpet.)
  16. Into the spider verse 2?(hey they took a risk with the first one.)
  17. It’s amazing how good the artist and character animators at Disney have gotten since tangled.People always accuse them of repeating their character designs without even noticing how refined and believable these characters have become since then.I mean we’re at a point where the character “Raya” is frame by frame almost as consistently beautiful as a glen keane drawing, not to mention the subtleties the animators are able to achieve with the acting today.(even though I still think tangled surpasses a majority of animated films in that department till today.)
  18. Had “soul” been the same exact film but in live action the film would of been one of the front runners of the year. It tells you the way animation is treated in Hollywood.
  19. As per usual with WDAS films it’s the characters and their design with the animation that really stands out.(their character animators were on the top of their game since “Tangled”.)
