  1. - Bridge of Spies is Spielbergs best film since Munich, Rylance is just unbelievable in the film. Very tough supporting actor race that year if I remember. - Catch Me If You Can is one of the all time Spielberg greats. Pure movie magic. - Last Crusade is actually my favourite Indiana Jones. Cracked my top 5. All the set pieces are so delightful; a train chase, boat chase, escape from a burning house, motorcycle chase, tank/horse chase, the trials. It has it all. - Saving Private Ryan is incredible. The whole village sniper sequence is etched into my brain so vividly. The scale of filmmaking throughout blows my mind.
  2. Minority Report is also very high on my personal list (probably 6). I just think it's so well constructed and the conversations the film is having around free-will/determinism are so interesting without feeling like a chore. Cruise kills it, he plays broken characters very well, the scene in the hotel is amazing. It also just has some ingenious sequences that can only come from Spielberg, the opening, the spiders, the umbrella escape. The photography is just stunning as well, the bleach bypass, the overblown highlights, the desaturation, the wonderful grain. Very film noir inspired (Even a smoking gun at one point) and then you get Spielbergs blocking on top of it, I just love to look at it. The ending leans into Spielbergs need to get a little schmaltzy, which I could do without but it works enough.
  3. Munich is definitely in my personal Spielberg top ten. I love everything about it. The assassination attempt with the phone is just one of the best sequences I've seen put to screen.
  4. I really really enjoyed this episode. I felt a bit disconnected not being on they 'this-is-greatest-thing-ever-hype' for the last couple of episodes which I thought were fine. This episode was so well directed. The dialogue felt so much more natural than last episode and the performances as well. The cast really gelled well together. Bill Burr and Richard Brake killed it. It was paced really nice and we also got big character moments from Mando. The lush jungle setting added some much needed variation. Cinematography was on point as well (some of the action could have been shot better but still solid). Overall, it had everything I could want from an episode of The Mandalorian. 9/10
  5. I absolutely love Robert Rodriguez but I agree with @Knights of Ren . The whole battling stormtroopers section felt like a fan film. As soon as the stormtroopers landed it looked/felt like a Youtube video (similar to a CorridorDigital/RackaRacka type). The way they also incorporated the CG elements felt that way. That's not to say the action wasn't good (the visual style just felt cheap), Overall I think it's one of the weaker ones of the season, still enjoyable and the actual content on paper is interesting but the execution was odd for me, didn't land that hard.
  6. Yeah I'm in Tier 2 and it looks like our local Odeon is opening up as of this weekend. Mostly Xmas movies but they have Coppola's new Godfather Part 3 cut which is tempting. I'll likely go for WW unless it gets abysmal reviews.
  7. I think this strategy would have made sense if WW had released at a similar time that Tenet did (That is assuming they're desperate to release WW this year). International markets were in a decent enough place to make some cash. US was/is a write-off so HBO MAX makes sense. But now international markets are back in a pretty bad spot and WB are still committing to their release date. It just seems like they're not reading the room. Maybe they think Xmas+WW is going to give them a big boost on HBO MAX and that's worth the loss.
  8. I was actually slightly let down by the episode. I think everyones reactions and ratings had me expecting this to be the best episode yet, whereas it was a perfectly solid standalone episode that I quite enjoyed. It was cool to see Ashoka live action but it didn't have the punch/awe I was wanting. Her place in this story is currently a lot smaller than what everyone was expecting I think. Filoni just didn't take it to the next level with his directing for me, it feels like we regressed back a bit after some some standout directing in EP1 and 3. It was pretty good TV directing. He did improve from last season though. Some spoilery thoughts: Overall I had a lot of fun though! It might seem like I'm harping on it a bit but it was an entertaining episode, another solid adventure for The Mandalorian. And it's cool to see where this could potentially go. 8/10
  9. I think the general directing and visual look of the show has improved a lot this season. I went back to watch Season 1 and it's a little generic in it's direction at times/going through the paces when it came to shots and set-ups (editing is a little choppy as well). There was also a larger amount of backlighting which makes everything look a little washed out at times/muddy (Nothing on the level of Solo but it's a bit much at times and I do generally love Greg Fraser). Some of those restrictions are probably down to working on 'The Volume' for the first time and getting to grips with everything. This season I can feel the directors hold on things a lot more, especially in Ep 1/3, the shots have real purpose (there's a few in Ep3 that could have been straight out of the sequel trilogy). The Empire settings in Ep3/4 have allowed for some real nice lighting, you're getting nice contrast, texture/depth in the image. They're real gorgeous interiors. For 2nd Unit directing they've brought on Sam Hargrave (Extraction) which is probably making a big difference for some of the feel. I imagine he's helping out on anything that's not a dialogue scene and handling the action scenes or the occasional chase/cockpit scene.
  10. Yup! You've got it exactly right as far as I know! There's two Branagh's running about in the finale, I don't remember if we ever see the past one outside of Kat's flashback, or a quick shot of him leaving.
  11. Honestly I think the only creatively interesting way they could take this is making it a definitive finale (until Creed gets someone to train 20 years down the line) and you have Adonis being at peace with giving up the title to a better fighter and maybe even retiring. But it's one of those things that would be so unsatisfying for a general audience (Not seeing your protagonist win at the end) that I don't see a studio biting.
  12. Honestly as a huge fan of the series, he doesn't look that bad for a young Drake. It might just be that he's clenching his jaw but it's certainly the oldest Tom Holland has looked. As weird as the casting is all round what gives me no excitement for this is finally having watched Venom a month ago. It's such an exceedingly below-average uninspired, completely bland action movie that feels like it was directed by a committee. Ruben Fleischer just seems like he has nothing in him but I hope he proves me wrong.
  13. With the current release dates I reckon Jurassic World or Avatar 2 (possibly The Batman) are the most likely candidates. They're far back enough for when things may have returned to normalcy and people are ready to experience something that's the pure spectacle (with a little nostalgia thrown in). It's likely quite a few of the 2021 films will get pushed back though and there's a few candidates in there. If they stay where they are I think they'll fall short of $1B
  14. That makes sense to me, best way to maximise profits I reckon with the holiday season. It'll have petered out by then even if there aren't major releases. The 4K will be a nice Xmas gift to myself.
  15. I've been pushing for Dan Stevens ever since The Guest. He just needs to put that muscle back on from then. I feel like he was the perfect age then as well, not sure how many films he can get in before he starts getting up there. They've pushed Craig pretty far though so could do the same.
  16. Reportedly same as Dunkirk $20M upfront salary and 20% of box office gross. Which is a record tied with Peter Jackson who got the same deal for King Kong. I wouldn't be surprised if the deal was changed to convince Warner to release during COVID and try giving a lifeline to theatres, could even be agreeing to a smaller payday on his next film.
  17. The Nightingale (2018) 9/10 - From Jennifer Kent who directed the Babadook. Really harrowing, brutal film. Powerful themes and the film has lot of complex emotions juggling around that it manages to handle with grace, fantastic acting by everyone. Was really surprised by Sam Claflin who's just been a pretty boy so far in his career, he was so despicable in this. Also had no idea what the setting/backdrop of the film was going into it and I thought it did a great job of exploring the treatment of Aboriginals in Australia. Not for those easily disturbed or affected by films. It's a tough watch in some parts.
  18. I think in that scene right after she's shot they mention how it causes inverse radiation which will kill her in hours and by inverting her they can stabilise her which takes days.
  19. Man this looks pretty great, Chalamet looks really solid, Mamoa looks like fun. Very totalitarian in design. I'm just not sure this trailer is going to sell general audiences on the concept. It is the very first trailer though and a solid first look, it just hasn't completely blown me away like some other trailers.
  20. The blue room stuff is still after the chase from her POV. Both her and JDW get grabbed after he saves her from the vehicle. JDW gets placed in the red room and from Kats POV she's taken into the blue room by inverted Sator/Branagh. It's just from Branagh's POV he's moving the opposite way through time. So for him he's taking her out of the blue room after interrogating JDW and then getting into the car chase. They're both just moving opposite ways through time but in the same event. For Kat she gets beaten by regular Branagh then placed in a car where there's an inverted Branagh, then proceeds to get into the car chase, JDW saves Kat, they both get caught, she gets taken into the blue room by an inverted Branagh, JDW is taken to the red, interrogation and then shot with inverted bullet and so on. For Branagh he beats her, waits for the heist and car chase to be over while having everything that's happened relayed to him for a tactical advantage for when he inverts. The next time we see him (chronologically from his POV) is when he shows up in the red room with JDW to further interrogate him (Which is when JDW says he's already told future inverted Branagh what he wants to know, who's watching on the other side in the blue room). Then ATJ/CO attack, Branagh runs into the turnstile and inverts. Inverted Branagh then does the interrogation with JDW from his side/shoots Kat, takes her out of the blue room and so on. You have to think of them (Inverted Branagh and Kat) as two independent objects moving opposite ways in time. Both have their own perspective on the events. To further add on to his idea of perspective think about the plane heist. When JDW/Neil break in we think JDW is fighting an inverted faceless goon. At the end of the fight it seems like the goon gets sucked out under the door out of the facility by a jet engine. Then when we come back to it later we seen the goon is inverted JDW, and from his POV he gets blown under the door into the facility from the jet engine (because it's inverted) and into the fight with himself. They're two objects moving opposite ways in time but caught in the same event and in direct interactions with each other.
  21. Yeah because Branaghs inverted, he's shooting Kat and then getting into the chase because he's moving backwards in time. So from Kats POV she's been dragged in to the room but from inverted Branaghs POV he's dragging her outside to the chase. I really love how the film shows it because we follow regular Branagh running into the Turnstile when ATJ+Co arrive and then when he pops out the other end inverted you can see them all rewinding on the other side and he does the interrogation with JDW again but for Branagh the other side is reversed. It's really crazy.
  22. Yeah I think it's like how your edit is saying, sorry if I explained it poorly! It's quite difficult to word with all the inversion happening lol. The shooting is all after the chase and being rescued by JDW. After she gets beaten by Branagh (the bit where he gets very shouty and drops the F bomb), it's presumed she's placed into a car off screen. For Branagh that's towards the end of his POV because he's moving in reverse at the point, he goes from being normal and listening to everything that's happening during the chase so he knows what to do. To running into the inversion machine when ATJ and the team raids the place. He then performs everything backwards, shooting Kat, interrogating JDW, then getting into the shootout, then the car chase, then setting inverted JDW's car on fire.
  23. I'll have a go at it but when it comes to the inverted bullets I was going along with what the film was telling me about them which is fairly (possibly intentionally) vague and when you get into that is where it gets a bit difficult. Kat at no point is inverted through the chase, so from her POV an inverted backwards moving Branagh is popping her into a her a car, holding a gun to her head etc. Pretty similar to what we're seeing play out on screen. She then gets taken with JDW and put into the room by inverted Branagh where he's talking backwards and he shoots her with the inverted bullet. Here's we come into the perspective thing, from the bullets POV it has already shot Kat because it's moving backwards in time. But from Kats POV she has not been shot yet because the bullet has yet the rewind backwards through her body which she reacts to after and it gives her an injury. The blood/wound is visible only after it happens and she screams after. We see a similar thing at the start of the film when Neil saves JDW at the Opera House, the bullet has been shot but it's the inversion of when it reverses back into the gun is what takes out the guy trying to kill JDW. That's the basics AFAIK.
  24. Man this hurts to see, no matter what you thought about the film I think everyone was hoping for some solid numbers to show the North American market is getting back on track but it's clearly not time for it. It's doing fairly decent numbers internationally so I think the cause is mostly down to the situation in America right now. I expect a lot of announcements this coming week of blockbusters being pushed back.
