It was reasonable to think the movie was dead in the water right after its release, didn't seem like anything was going for it. But the movie's tone just seems to be clicking with people in a way Good Dino and Lightyear weren't.

Apparently its success in Korea is being partially attributed to a KPop musician heavily promoting it. Damn those people have a ton of power there.

It's just mature enough that adults can appreciate it but also just colorful and fun enough for kids to enjoy it. And it's basically the only option for families with young children this summer.

The belief is that he’s trying to juice up the company’s library by emphasizing all of their big IP’s, hence the DC, LotR and Harry Potter announcements. Maybe that’s not what he’s going for, but either way, he’s not really doing a great job at improving the image of the company.

Yeah yeah, the company was in debt because of AT&T and all that, but as I’ve said numerous times in the past, nobody forced him to buy WB. This was clearly outside of his wheelhouse. The key to his success was trashy and cheap reality shows that could be pumped out like they’re in a factory.

    I'll say it again:

David Zaslav's leadership style served him well when he was in charge of a network of low budget, easily replaceable reality TV shows. It's another thing altogether when you're in charge of a major global film and TV network. He has experience in the industry, but he may have bitten off more than he could chew here.

  3. The thing I'm still unsure of is what Zaslav's endgame is? If he is eventually planning on selling WB off, why continue to devalue it? Nobody's going to buy damaged goods. And it's not like it comes at a low price tag.

I'm sure he doesn't care about people saying mean things about him online, I'm sure he thinks the studio can weather all the bad press they're getting from his unpopular decisions.

Yet, between the tone deaf responses to the writer's strike, the numerous talent he's pissed off by gutting the studios animation department, the Creators tag debacle on Max, and his plan to go all in on Flash backfiring, I feel like this is going to start hurting him.

Too easy to blame Snyder. Tsujihara, Emmerich, Johns, Hamada and Sarnoff are responsible for this mess.

The truth is all of them are to blame for the mess. The former management at WB made several bad decisions during and after Snyder's tenure. However, Snyder was the one responsible for laying a faulty foundation for the DCEU and turning the general audience off.

The rage by those online were a bit insufferable and the irony was that everyone else started doing the same.

CEOs don't care what people on the internet think of them. I'm indifferent to him but some people get way too angry and overinvested in people who run these big corporations.

I doubt Mr. Zaslav cares too much about what people are saying about him online. Still, some of these moves seem questionable at best from a PR standpoint.

    My DCEU ranking:

    1. The Suicide Squad

    2. Peacemaker

    3. Wonder Woman

    4. Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn

    5. Aquaman

    6. Shazam!

    7. WW84

    8. Zack Snyder’s Justice League

    9. Black Adam

    10. Man of Steel

    11. Suicide Squad

    12. Batman v Superman (Either edition)

Haven’t seen either Fury of the Gods or The Flash yet. BvS is quite likely my most hated film of all time, Man of Steel and Suicide Squad I genuinely disliked and I only throughly enjoyed my top 5 of this list.

This is more or less my ranking as well.

I sincerely hope Gunn and co. fully understand the gravity of what they have to do.

The need a likable cast that will excite Gen Z specifically as well as whom audiences will root for a personal level (so aka no Ezra Miller). The film must satisfy traditional Superman films while also feeling modern and fresh. The film needs a balance of heart, action, comedy and drama. It needs to do what both Goldeneye for James Bond and Batman Begins did for Batman - reinvent while staying faithful. It needs to be original but not so out there that it feels too unfamiliar.

Gunn is definitely capable, without a doubt. But they have a lot of boxes to check.

I'd say a better James Bond comparison would be Casino Royale, but you're spot on otherwise. Gunn needs to infuse this movie with the same level of heart as the Guardians movie.
