Why did anyone seriously think that this was going to be PG-13? Especially after the first one still managed to get a PG rating despite being a bit more mature than your average family film.
DeSantis has all the charisma of a paper bag, his political instincts have proven to be lacking, and there's little about him that people outside of far right crazies in FL find appealing. We should still take him seriously, but he's not invincible.
That's why I don't see it collapsing like Lightyear did. Minions 2 stole all the oxygen in the room and delivered what families wanted from an animated Summer movie. Ruby Gillman could surprise, but that has even less awareness than Elemental does now.
By all indications, the movie is really good. But, when your lead star is in rehab and has too many scandals to do press tours, you need to find any alternatives possible to promote the movie.
