  1. Is this going to keep on increasing? Could a 60-million Friday tally be next??
  2. WOH underpredicted JL? I always assumed that it would outgross WW, but now it's confirmed: Justice League will make twice as much as Wonder Woman OS, while easily making at least 100 million more than Wondy's film domestic.
  3. Spider-Man 6 : I doubt it. Thor 3 : maybe. Justice League : no way, Jose. I probably jinxed them; now watch as It actually outgrosses all the 2017 CBMs, including Wonder Woman and Justice League Interesting choices!! I am very intrigued about how a modern Puppet Master would do nowadays. As for Motel Hell , hell yeah! "It takes all kinds of critters...to make Farmer Vincents fritters"
  4. I have always felt that it will eventually happen. There is too much money to be made not to ever happen. Sure, the film will probably cost 700 million to produce, but it will gross that globally in its first three days (and how far is 700 m from Infinity War ' s pricetag anyway) ?
  5. Do directors not named Cameron, Spielberg, Nolan, Allen or Scorcese have any power over who gets cast in their films? I wish that Wan helped nurture/create Asian American movie stars and/or casting more Asian American leads for his future, non-blockbuster CBM films. I'd love to see a full-fledged James Wan horror film starring an Asian American actor.
  6. Just wait until Woody Allen makes the first film about a neurotic middle-aged Jewish New Yorker (Allen) who moonlights as a superhero vigilante and falls in love with his half-his-age gentile superheroine sidekick (Jennifer Lawrence). The villain will be Jeff Goldblum and Goldblum's evil henchwoman will be Lisa Kudrow. Oscar sweep anyone?
  7. WTF? I am quite surprised by those notices. I did not expect this film to become some sort of awards contender. Janney is expected to get extraordinary reviews, but if Robbie gets an Oscar nomination (a fitting addition to her ascendant starpower), they fucking need to finally get moving with the Gotham City Sirens thing (I hope). Right?
  8. I know. Believe me, I dream of the day that superhero films are not seen as "lesser" in terms of their potential to be Oscar contenders. If Nolan cannot get TDK to an Oscar nod, I don't know who can. Maybe if Spielberg, Cameron, Scorcese...or...LOL Woody Allen ever decide to do a superhero film.
  9. I know you are being sarcastic, but they do have great visuals (for the most part). Now back to the sarcasm: add the amazingly nuanced, sharply humanistic, deeply intelligent comedy in the MCU films, and you have to wonder why no MCU film has been nominated for a Best Picture Oscar yet. It is mind-boggling. (now cue the "Um, dude...you LOVE the DCEU...how dare you bash the quality of the MCU films??" comments... well, is this not the Stan Wars thread? Can we not fan the fanwar flames in peace here????
  10. Ok, so we have had an embarrassment of riches when it comes to successful horror films in the last few years, and now It will totally blow away all of our expectations for how high a horror film can open (some could say that It will totally make studios rethink their plans for "high"-budgeted horror filmmaking). Now I want the romantic comedy to be brought back (please???). Yes...the classic type of romcom. The type that made stars of Julia, Sandra, Meg, and [briefly] Miss Heigl. Not subverted or deconstructed...just classically constructed romcoms (although I'd love to see "adventurous" casting in terms of ages and ethnicities). I can totally see Gal Gadot, Jennifer Lawrence, Lupita Nyong'o, Naomi Scott, Jessica Chastain, Kerry Washington, Tom Holland, Idris Elba, and many others, in a rom com... I will continue dreaming about this...
  11. LOL I had not thought of that. I agree with @Brainbug, but yeah, I would add Bond. Or...a new Harry Potter (come on, you know that would be HUGE, no matter what part of the year).
  12. Yep. I know that some people might say, "Whatever; hindsight's 20/20," but we have had so many of these months that are always considered dead zones (and understandably so) that explode with the right film. Obviously, it would be harder with unknown, untested properties, but it can happen.
  13. What October needs to get its first 100-million-dollar opener is a horror-tinged superhero film that is either the direct follow up or closely related to a previous well-received DCEU or Marvel film. Maybe a Justice League Dark sequel or a Carnage film (again, only if JLD becomes a beloved breakout and Carnage is a follow-up to a beloved Venom film). Or just re-schedule Wonder Woman 2 to open October 25, 2019.
  14. So WB will have at least two gigantic smash hits in 2019: Wonder Woman 2 and It 2.
  15. What exactly did you think the F13 remake did wrong? It's a genuine question (no sarcasm behind it); remember I am always interested in what you think of horror properties.
  16. Fans of horror, is there any other beloved horror property (be it a book, an old film, or even an urban legend) that has the potential to pull an It if done well, marketed well, and cast well? Just curious about your thoughts.
  17. Nope I am not talking about across-all-platforms views. The official, exclusively YT views for these things are: IT's first teaser - 33 million views since March LWYMMD - 280 million views since August. Clearly a TS movie would gross a billion dollars domestic.
  18. So that means that a film starring Taylor Swift and based on her "Look What You Made Me Do" video would open with 300 million.
  19. Yep. We've had too many real-life flops that had tons of online buzz to say "never doubt the power of online buzz." It elicited palpable offline buzz; I have seen people who don't care for horrors tell me that they want to see this.
  20. True. I think she will eventually get her win (unless she becomes the Glenn Close of her generation and gets a gazillion nominations and no wins).
