  1. Speaking of which, I know that films are all make believe and whatnot...but damn, after watching the film, I can't imagine Jen not being emotionally drained after doing certain scenes and getting herself into certain emotional places to become this character and live out these situations. Has she mentioned anything about what she endured (psychologically) while making this movie?
  2. It makes sense. If I were her agent, and I had three options ( "JLaw in an action thriller where she kicks ass" versus "Jlaw in a horror film where she is terrorized" versus "Jlaw in a family drama where she reconnects with her father")...which one would you think I could ask more money for? And based on her resume, which of those three pitches might actually get a 20-million payday be even considered?
  3. The more I hear about it, the more I am looking forward to this. After Aquaman and the undersea aspects of this, maybe underwater action-adventure will be so popular that we will get a Namor film after all!!
  4. Depends what you mean with "enhancing a career." Jen is already a superstar movie actress, and at this point in her career, she needs to get two things: box office hits that extend/continue cementing her box office clout, and prestige-type/challenging films that continue making her grow as an artist and/or get awards recognition. A film doesn't have to be a cultural phenomenon to help an actor's career: you think that a 300-million gross for something like Red Sparrow (even if people forget about it a year later) would not be welcomed with open arms by Jen, her agent, and her business manager? Heck yeah it would. The more box office she gets in blockbuster hits, the longer she can continue getting the big-time paydays (and that would not take anything away from her doing the ocassional smaller film that helps her hone her skills and/or get awards buzz).
  5. "Sad"? An R-rated horror film grossing 320 million dollars in 2017 (and released in September no less) is sad? Sarcasm, right?
  6. So...will Stand By Me /Stranger Things be the new Pocahontas / Ferngully ? As in "Ugh! It's just a ripoff of Stand By Me and Stranger Things ! Avatar 2 sucks!!"
  7. AWESOME! The fact that this is finally real news about Avatar 2 is incredibly exciting.
  8. Yep. And watch as it breaks every all kinds of box office records and makes people go "only Cameron can get away with a sequel 11 years later"...
  9. LOL Every CBM must be a slapstick-ish superhero comedy with tons of "jokes" and pop culture nods.
  10. Since there are so many posts from the usual folks dismissing the film [by virtue of it not being MCU, you know], I totally misread your post!!!!! I apologize. This movie looks better every day and I am glad it is attracting so much talent.
  11. LOL I hope that this film is a huge hit that also gets acclaim, just so I can watch the usual suspects that think they hold the "keys" to Marvel scramble and change their tunes (or look for excuses to diminish the film). And "waste of talent" for this cast while they applaud Cate the Great signing up for a superhero comedy.
  12. Intriguing choice (and the last person I'd imagine to do it)... Is Angelina still expected to be cast in the lead?
  13. I just can't with the Sony hatred! The studio must surely have something on these actors if they are willing to be in any non-MCU CBM film, right? LOL
  14. So says the man whose goddess (look at his avatar) has made a career out of films with one-note characters and sloppy dialogue. I mean, actual one-note characters and sloppy dialogue. Unless I missed the deep characterization and sharp dialogue in Baywatch, The Layover, and San Andreas.
  15. I just hope that one of the sequels finally give us the long-awaited first-ever scene of a Na'Vi female stripping, with all camera angles solidly emphasizing every curve, nook, and cranny of her furry blue body. Neytiri, obviously... Omaticaya female empowerment, y'all!
  16. So we pretty much know which film will be the # 1 grossing blockbuster released in 2020. (Sorry, Marvel. Sorry, DCEU...)
  17. “Nobody is watching Avatar [on home video] or waiting in four-hour lines at Disney’s World of Avatar or going to the sold-out Cirque du Soleil shows because of the film’s 3-D,” he points out. “People respond because of the movie’s characters, themes, and emotions—and we have all that again. When the cast read what Jim Cameron wrote, it hit them with even greater resonance than the first movie.” ^^^Listen well, children.
  18. People stll use the BS "who cared about Avatar's story" hyperbole? I cared about the story and the characters, and so did everyone I went to see it with, which makes that statement silly. If I didn't care for the story or characters, I would not have been so moved and captivated by what happened to them and by the plot. It's funny how when a film triumphs at pretty much every traditional standard of success used for modern films (critical reviews, box office, word of mouth, awards recognition), people have to make up stuff to diminish that film (because they have nothing to base their hate on). The whole "nobody cares about the story/characters" is an amusing narrative that took a life of its own because the very vocal minority that hated Avatar keeps parroting it to this day. And the "James Cameron" cannot write!" is the most laughable thing; not only can he write, he is probably the best cinematic storyteller working today.
  19. Acting is just like any other job; if I had a child and could help him get ahead in his career (be it through connections or leads), you bet your ass I would help them. Everybody wants to help their kids, and everyone would (I bet). But actors are somehow held to some silly standards of "integrity" that determines that it's wrong for them to help their kids.
