  2. AQP2 last weekend in China gain marginally from the previous week, ending the run at $39m total
  3. I doubt so, the last 3 movie in the franchise had their preview multiplier at 9.3x-10.4x. Doing 80m require internal multiplier to be as high as 11.3x , that seem very unlikely and must be some outlier word of mouth to propel leg. Even 70m isn't a locked at this stage. I remember we all thought AQP2 could hit 50m with that 19.5m friday and sunday being a holiday but weekend bump was weaker than usual in the end. Hoping some Saturday afternoon thunderstorm in NY can bring some people back in cinema.
  4. As much as I want this movie to be a surprise hit, I share pessimistic view like the rest cause there are just too many factors going against it. See how WB build its buzz after its reception in Venice. But the ideal way to prove hbo max isn't hurting box office is when a movie did well in box office, there is hardly any major uptick in HBO viewership. If both went up, that can only suggest some notable leakage.
  5. 7. - (-) The Conjuring: The Devil … Warner Bros. $900,000 -46% 2,668 $337 $57,113,000 22 - (-) In the Heights Warner Bros. $650,000 -53% 2,403 $270 $22,582,000 16 Actually Conjuring 3 is more resilient than I thought, heading to 63m-65m total. As for ITH, this continue to stay in the hell........
  8. Assuming F9 make 68m opening with 2.35x leg, F9 will likely have final total of 160m, the same range that AQP2 is heading now, pretty much in line with pre-pandemic expectation.
  9. Wouldn't this further reinforce the correlation between two where more crowd distracted by hbo max free release after buzzy hit in theater run? Like Gvk attracted 3.6m household after its 48.1m opening. Assuming only 10% of the household would have seen GvK in theater if without hbo max, that would represent 360k to 720k potential loss admission (assuming one household contribute one or two people). This in turn translate a loss in box office of 3.6m~7.2m alone during opening weekend. Carry over the effect across the run, it is safe to say that GvK could have earned 10m more in box office without hbo max. And that was with HBO max had fewer subscribers back in late-March, could have grow much bigger by October.
  10. Not sure if hurt by F9 or last friday being a semi-holiday, Cruella friday bump is lower this week. - (-) Cruella Walt Disney $1,125,000 +61% -25% 2,820 $399 $68,702,235 29 - (-) Raya and the Last Dragon Walt Disney $14,000 +3% -44% 120 $117 $54,426,150 113
  11. If this follow F8 weekend that will give rise to 68.5m opening but not sure if F8 being an Easter weekend opener means that will led to a more frontloadness opening run.
  12. I have this conflicted feeling for F7. As much as I like F7, that is the emotional tribute for Paul Walker that stand out as an iconic moment of the series but this moment have little to do with actual plot. The scene play more like a real-life farewell bid for Paul Walker than the character. So can this still be evaluated along side with the movie itself?
  13. AQP2 opening isn't a very high bar to beat even if we factor in franchise fatigue. A 60m opening could spell headline doom during normal time but now, this 60m is a life-saving moment for box office
  14. F9 should have really taken the Father day spot. This past weekend is so boring and uneventful, Not to mention F9 will keep itself additional one week apart from BW.
  15. Actually Saturday bump was stronger in 2019 than in 2021. They were in 30%-40% range in 2019 but this year many of them got 20% bump.
