  1. I don't think think The iron claw is real Oscar material. Seems like a pure dad movie like Air (and some of the dads were saying that was oscar material too). Of course can be a well told emotional story but seems very derivative of many movies Oscars have already overlooked even too much (the wrestler, the fighter etc...). About Zac Efron. Academy hates hotties ex teen idols, more specifically they hate what women love (Leo didn't get a nom for THEE Titanic, Winslet of course did). Di Caprio needed to work a lot with every oscar loved director before getting an oscar after 1700 nominations (and needed to be outside of every People list of the hotties from years). Matt Damon will get an Oscar as career prize when he's old, same for Hugh Jackman. Like for Brad Pitt, Paul Newman or Robert Redford. Kristen Stewart has already an oscar nomination and most people will tell you she's an average actress, Robert Pattinson lately has been more acclaimed, with more acclaimed projects, of course as ex females heartrobe still waiting for a serious oscar conversation about him. Zac Efron now is kinda remotely in a conversation about "not being a bad actor". Now need 3 projects with very acclaimed oscar directors and can get a nomination, 2 if one of the roles is something like a british royal or Elvis Presley.
  2. If you make an action movie (The Marvels) and you want to sell it to females you need to write a story women can relate to and to marketize the movie in a very specific way, not like is every other movie in the franchise. They did very good with Black Panther, the has an original soundtrack with original hip-hop rap songs. Something still unique for Marvel. A curated soundtrack is very important for female movies, that's one of the things Warned did very good for Barbie. Back in 2012 an article showed with data a lot of young girls got interested to Hunger Games from the moment Taylor Swift was involved in the soundtrack. Lionsgate made the same thing this time around with Olivia Rodrigo... she is for 15-20 women what Swift was 10 years ago. An Olivia Rodrigo song for The Marvels was too hard?. They didn't even tried like they did with BP.
  3. I mean yeah could have a different impact but you can't compare two very different projects. One with Tom Hanks and a 100M+ budget, One Is indie and no old star. With all the difference in marketing, promotion, distribution and everything. Do a 100M Priscilla biopic with Jennifer Lawrence, meryl streep and Greta Gerwig as director and we can compare more.
  4. The movie seems like made with an AI. The princess look Is so basic and already seen. Hair+ clothes + her face. Same for the setting. While encanto looked amazing already from the promo and you can breath from that a story with all the latina culture (same for Oceania and her world) this seems a generic medieval european wood from Classic Disney so stereotyped with nothing new on the table. Just looks boring.
  5. TCP Broadway musical reached 1500 performances (original + revival). I don't think you can make that only with a black audience. I think there Is a space to have WOM upon others targets too.
  6. Let WOM works 😅. Why we should suppose where it's going because of 2nd day presales? There are clearly people are buying tickets before cause they want to see it on Christmas, the rest probably doesn't feel like they had to buy them 5 days before like it's the new star wars.
  7. This movie is really growing up in the conversation with great legs in the markets has been released (UK, usa and Australia). Really a shame amazon didn't give it the Air treatment with a WW release on the big screen
  8. we're talking about the same "academy" has nominated The Prom as comedy-movie so i can see why people were expecting TCP and Wonka to be there but...this year honestly the comedy-musical category is very very strong....barbie, american fiction, the holdovers, may december, poor things... i mean they all are in conversations to get a very likely Best Picture nomination at The Oscars.... yeah we could have expected one of the two musicals instead of Air but that was a very liked movie too and you have Chalamet in the cerimony because of his nomination, same for Fantasia... while you need Air in the movie cateory to have Ben and J. Lo 🤣
  9. I don't get what's the point to have this kind of cast and then you don't even put the names on the trailer. Yeah it's important to read Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Javier Bardem etc on the screen.. Large part of the audience can not recognize them in a trailer especially with special effects, costumes etc... You have to put it during the trailer, not at the end all the names in a 0.5 second frame And why you don't write Denis Villeueve is the director of Sicario and Arrival. Maybe someone casually watched them one week ago without even knowing the name of the director. So it's important. And why you don't write Chalamet is an Oscar nominated actor, Austin Butler is that guy from Elvis, Bardem won an Oscar. These gave prestige, this sells...why the Oscars even exists othewise?.
  10. Wonka will make 500M+ WW. A sequel will come at least Timothee Is not putting a Gosling- Ken on them
  11. people have problems with musicals cause it's like listening to an album for the first time. Usually you get bored after half of it and every song seems at some point all the same. For example: when you see Grease for the first time even if you don't know anything about the movie you basically know 8/10 songs cause they are so popular, so "everyone" likes that. I saw with my brother Mary Poppins 2 and he told me songs were all the same and boring, we watched The greatest last year and he enjoyed it cause he knew almost every song (this is me here has been for 2 year in the ads of a mobile company, so basically on tv every 10 minutes. Another song is on a popular biscuits tv ad, another one has been popular on radios etc...) When someone tells you the movie is good and fun you think ok so it's not boring and even if it's a musical i'm gonna watch it. This is why then usually is actually a genre with very good WOM and not frontloaded a lot. I mean it's not a genre only for specific nerds of the genre, actually can be very GP loved, but I understand the studios point: you need people to going to watch it to create the WOM.
  12. The fact they are both musicals makes just a very little group of people a target of both (the musicals geeks). For the rest I think they really have a different audience.
  13. Wonka numbers went up and up on prediction in the last days so i think can make more than 40M with a great sunday, like 41-41.5M
  14. Thanks. So no competition for Wonka as family movie
  15. What are Christmas releases in the UK?. There is some British new movie or Wonka and Acquaman are the only big releases until january?. What about colour purple? Musicals are a strong genre there.
  16. I don't remember if you were the One saying The eras was opening with 300M. 😄 I think this movie can really have great WOM and certainly can have a fan base but even if Christmas day i really don't see right now this hype around to make a 30M OD. I think Is gonna make something between 15-20. Which would be incredible too. 😅
  17. That mean girls prediction 💀. And Wonka and colour purple and joker and Wicked coming. Tom is adding singing parts to MI8 as we speak.
  18. You're opinions about audience score is too based on too much years of formulaic blockbusters like cinecomic, Disney live movies etc.. So 98% that works. 90% that not work very well. Barbie has a 83%. Get out an 86%. When people don't know what they are about to see cause It's something new and not Avengers 18 It's easier more people won't like It cause It wasn't what they thought. Still the movie can be very liked by the others and the WOM being great
