Horses for courses, but that was what I absolutely loved about it. They outsmarted the villain and it played like a classic TV episode rather than a bombastic over-the-top bog standard finale. And obviously a great bookend considering how the villain was introduced to Ethan, separated by the glass. It was a good subversion of expectations after Ghost Protocol.

I find the last 4 to be very consistent, though Fallout does stand out, not just because the action is the best in the series, but because there is a consistent through-line from the previous one and Cavill really elevates it all, by being the hammer to Ethan's scalpel in the first half, then a proper good villainous turn. DR's villains are by far its weakest point for me. One is still too abstract on one hand and yet overly-familiar to audiences, and the other is just too underdeveloped to make him memorable. Hopefully DR2 fixes that.

I agree nothing can top the action or Cavill's arrogant smarminess of fallout but istill really like the variety of the action DR Part 1and  The train climax is just great  from the word go. And I like Pom's silent assassin and Esai while undeveloped still gives off a unsettling vibe that will be explored in part 2 i assume.

The SoF wave they couldn't see it coming. Without it we probably seeing FALLOUT figures. The release date was a known problem months before Barbenheimer blew up. We knew that Nolan will get exclusive IMAX and PLF treatment. That's why Cruise was so pissed off having only a week or so in large screens. Maybe they thought Universal will move it. Hindsight Paramount should have moved the film to August when MARVELS got moved.

Hell considering how much of a disaster Aquaman 2 is looking like maybe they should have released it at christmas. They should just pull it from theaters now not put it on P+ and bluray and re release it then. Only joking but we as baumer said we can armchair qb all day long. It is what it is. DR Part 2 will get a much better release date. Probably Nov 24 i would guess. I dont  think it will make the June 28th date unless the strike ends no later than mid september or October.

It ruins nothing. Great weekend ahead. DR is actually the best reviewed film out of the lot. The release date just wasn't right in the US and China. Across the globe it is doing very well.

I was about to say that. Gonna focus on it's INT numbers. This has always been a much bigger franchise OS than domestically. Bond is the same way. Domestic audiences for whatever reason are not  that big into Spy action movies.

the moviegoing experience seeing MI7 last week for me was as good as it gets. I’ve got a great tv and sound system too and it wouldn’t even touch the theatrical experience I had last week.
Maybe they live by a bad theatre?

I could never wait three to four months to watch a film like MI7 on my tv. But like I said, everybody is different.

Yep i am  with you there. Can not imagine just being like I will wait for MI 7. But people are different.

Entirely anecdotal this I know, but among my friends, only a couple have gone to see MI7, and the rest are waiting for on demand. The reasoning is generally because they have good TV and sound system set ups, the movie going experience is unpleasant, and the film is long.

Same attitude has been prevalent for most of the big movies this year - especially the ones that reviewed averagely to badly.

Sigh. I get this sort of. But still it just really depresses me when I hear stuff like this.

At least they get another crack at it with the next Mission film. Paramount needs to be a lot smarter with the release date. It should be much easier to keep the budget under control, since I assume there won't be another COVID situation to blow up the budget.

Yep. I am sure TC will not let them forget how badly they flubbed this and make sure they don't do it again.

Friday sales are absolutely on a tear today. If Oppy could add more prime time shows it could open > 80m I think. Barbie could go for 175m+ with robust walkups.

That's great for those movies. But Mission could have one of the worst drops for a movie with a A cinema score ever. God I hope rising tide lifts all boats.
