DR should still pass $200M, should play well well after the Barbieheimer drop.
It has to jump big today for that to even be a possible reality. Like at least 19 anything under means WOM is not moving the needle at all.

that's gonna be a problem when it loses PLF to Oppenheimer.
Paramount sucks.

Crazy how DR2 introduces Zendaya as Cavill's vengeful sister
All I can say to that is thank god Tom Cruise is not Vin Diesel

I hear what you're saying but this summer is always the most crowded time of year for movies. It always have to coexist with one another and usually it works out just fine. If the movie is good enough and enough people are recommending it then it will find a way to survive just like other movies have for the last 40 years in the summertime.
But let's give it a worst case scenario and say that it does 160 domestic and 450 internationally. Is a 600 million gross really that terrible? It's not great but it's not horrible.
Yeah 160 would be what NTTD made domestically. This will have summer weekdays at least and has a head start over that already.

as I said all along the youth factor definitely played a difference
regarding the quality of the film it is subject to not being subject to anything in particular since there are endless looming variables all along
but most importantly youth factor DID come into play god almighty

And just as we expected, the reactionary 'is Cruise's theatrical career over' talking points have started, completely ignoring that he's coming off the hottest streak in his 40 year career with 2 back to back personal records and a great new movie.
Maybe the question to ask is will Paramount's leadership and marketing team survive this
Yeah I don't get how continuing to make some of the best popcorn blockbusters of the last 5 years is a bad thing. This is on the absolute clown show Paramount seems to be right now.

All of the non-MI and TGM movies, barring Edge of Tomorrow were mid to bad and they still overperformed relative to quality. Jack Reacher made over 3x its budget, heck The Mummy made over $410m. Even Oblivion which was pretty mid made close to $300m.
Edge of Tomorrow was the only true disappointment because it was great but folks were probably burned with Oblivion.
And then Fallout and TGM became Cruise's biggest hits of all time back to back. His goodwill is at an all time high. So, DR's underperformance is baffling to me.
I can't remember the last time an instalment with great reviews and an A Cinemascore coming off a beloved high watermark for a franchise both critically and financially and with its star also delivering another gigantic hit, underperform this severely relative to expectations

Is Tom Cruise's career finished now? MI series will be over after DR:2, since Paramount would lose or make a meager profit once part 2 releases. His non franchise films have all flopped in the last 17 years and apart from Top Gun, there is no other film in his resume that he could make a franchise on. I think he is going to do another Top Gun film in the next 3-4 years and that will be his only successful film. His space film with Doug Liman would be really expensive to make (the budget is 200 M+ and the box office grosses might not be 400 M WW) and Universal might shelve it after the underperformance of Mission Impossible 7. The only option I think Cruise has is take those fat cheques from streaming services and do what Adam Sandler is doing, i.e make streaming films.
Tom Cruise is not doing streaming movies. He has made it pretty clear time and time again that he makes movies for the big screen.

MI7 I 2nd Jat's 14.5m
Trying to figure out if it can least hit 50 for the weekend. It would probably have to do at least 20 on saturday and 16 on sunday. The length shoulld make saturday the high water day for this. Will see.

DR's underperformance is baffling given that it is a high profile film which is exceptionally well received by both critics and audiences and is led by the biggest Hollywood star in the world coming off the beloved and biggest film of his career. The film is tremendously entertaining and its almost three hour runtime feels closer to a single hour. The spectacle of it is worth the price of admission, especially if you love a good, old-fashioned action movie.
I wonder if the specter of Barbenheimer is keeping moviegoers at home this weekend because people know they are heading to cinemas next weekend. You might think DR will develop some legs but it won't be for another week or two as it is losing all of its PLFs. Oppenheimer's non-IMAX showings seem pretty sparse and should catch any overflow that would normally opt for DR if people must see the film next weekend and will settle for non-IMAX.
Perhaps it should have released during the second week of April when it would have had PLFs for three weekends and could have co-existed with TSMBM, even if TSMBM would have won their first weekend battle.
I just hold on to the fact that every movie this summer with a A- cinema score or better has had legs. Elemental is at a 4 IM and Spiderverse and Guardians are both at 3.

Yes that was stupid. Especially since he says he wants to continue the MI franchise after DR. People are gonna be real confused probably thinking Part 2 is the last one.
The Part one would have been fine if Paramount had you know did any real marketing between May of last year and May of this year. Other than the Imax thing in front of WOW.
-
If the rumors are true about Cruise not being happy with Paramount about the marketing and scheduling of this imagine how angry he is now. Makes that leaked Covid rant look like nothing. Bet they will step it up for Part 2.

I got nothing. I thought my fellow late Gen exers and early baby boomers would get off their lazy ass and go see a movie with 96% on RT and a A Cinema score. Guess not. If im mad at anybody it's not you guys reporting it it's them. Just like with Indiana Jones 2 weeks ago I will look forward to seeing it tomorrow and hope I love it like I have loved all these movies. Still getting Part two no matter what and I bet that has much more favorable release date and paramount will market it better. If it were not for Barbenheimer next week this probably would leg like a Mission movie does. Maybe it still does after that. Or Haunted Mansion finishes it off.

Transformers is having some good holds lately isn’t it?
I suspect we’re about to see a race between Transformers, Elemental and SOF all running to ~160M
Indy too based on it's estimated hold this weekend. 170-180 still seems possible for that.

Sound Of Fury is nuts. I have not had one coversation with a friend or family member about it and if I brought it up they would have no idea it existed.
