  1. Its real world performance tracks more to Metacritic than the "It coulda been Maverick" so I'll take my word that people use Metacritic over yours.
  2. I seriously don't even remember the first Fall Guy trailer. This movie's marketing was a total botch compared to something like Civil War. Yeah a stuntman movie isn't "zeitgeisty" but they had no idea what they were selling compared to how comparable action films are usually marketed.
  3. ...okay, but I seriously don't remember that. It felt very muted even compared to the Civil War "THIS COULD HAPPEN TOMORROW" stuff.
  4. That's one way of looking at it. The other way is that people did not seem very "buzzed" about seeing Fall Guy before or after reviews dropped, which would have been evident in a spike in advance sales. After all the hype it got ON HERE (but not really on other sites) it'll likely do a bit better than Civil War for its week 1 and cost the studio a lot more. If there had been a single scene or aspect to the movie that was "hyped" (even if it were controversial) I would have changed my tune.
  5. General audiences use Metacritic all the time. It gets noted all the time for video games, it's not an obscure website. More importantly, it tracks how the critics actually feel about the movie other than good/bad. Fall Guy did not have the kind of "divisive" response Joker did that actually propelled the movie, nor did it have the near-universal praise of something like Oppenheimer or Minus One. It was "this is a good action movie" not "this is an absolute world beater and savior of movies".
  6. Again, nobody is actually going to remember the "high" scores if the actual buzz is "good, not great" for a movie they weren't terribly interested in in the first place. Fall Guy's Metacritic is a more realistic 73/100.
  7. Starting to think CJohn needs a ban, or at least a warning. My trolling is like Groucho Marx in comparison.
  8. They shouldn't have done the whole Barbenheimer. They should have done Fall Guy Meets Guy from HARLEM instead.
  9. Could they have possibly went with a title that doesn't sound like "Free Guy" to the vast majority of people who DON'T remember the Lee Majors series?
  10. Let's put it this way.... the amount of people watching/not watching Fall Guy based on a single line about the miserable Depp/Heard relationship is absolutely miniscule.
  11. The Sequel Trilogy aren't getting re-evaluated because they didn't introduce any new characters that people cared about and felt like inferior versions of the originals.
  12. I'm sure you're correct on that. Problem is sticking Blunt/Gosling in the same film does not=Barbenheimer in hype terms.
  13. Velma got an s2 because Zaslav only cares about animation for hatewatching/cheap pops on streaming. Velma s2 is already down to #10 on Max US, I very much doubt it gets an s3. It's not exactly Bojack in durability terms.
  14. Just to be purely pedantic, Gosling's whining about Gerwig not getting a Best Director nom (when the movie was already nominated for Best Picture!) was really fucking annoying.
  15. It's an easy 230 mil US/650 mil WW given the value of the IP, but I'm iffy on more than that given the level of competition. I've seen plenty of sequels decline rapidly from their precursors as of late.
  16. Do people generally think Civil War has enough remaining runway to hit 75 mil?
  17. The real trolls are the studio heads claiming this is somehow irredeemably bad while putting out loads of...dubious movies.
  18. Clearly Megalopolis is inferior to THE GREATEST SUPERHERO MOVIE SINCE THE DARK KNIGHT that Zaslav loved so much.
  19. I get the sense people on here really don't get how popular Sonic is. Guess they'll have to learn the hard way.
  20. Not gonna be too judgmental based on the trailer visuals but the story sounds pretty stupid. "Taka" (a name that means "trash") was somehow the chosen one? Mufasa was somehow from the lion equivalent of poverty row (which doesn't exist for lions)? Even Scar's speech from Lion King always made it sound like MUFASA was always viewed as "above Scar" his entire life. An actual villain origin for Scar where HE had a life of misery and resentment he had secretly concealed from Mufasa sounds much more like the actual backstory of Scar than "Dusty Rhodes lion ruined my life, the movie".
  21. Most people don't watch movies based on poster art anymore. And the studios are painfully aware of this.
  22. Seems pretty low overall, although likely a bad indicator of the "real" gross. I'm not really getting "breakout of the summer" vibes from it, though.
