  1. Nah, it totally felt like an astroturf. I had seen zero real world response to the "hype" and it mainly seemed to be something referenced on box office boards. I had never heard actual realspace humans say "Wow I hear that Fall Guy movie is really something!" It certainly wasn't the equivalent of "Joker wins Golden Lion".
  2. ...I'm skeptical Radcliffe and Watson want to work on projects written by Rowling for reasons that are painfully obvious.
  3. I can't help but laugh about all the "superhero fatigue" "superheroes are dead" stuff given how badly a non-superhero summer opener has done. Whatever it is that's supposed to save cinema "action movie with romance and Taylor Swift score" ain't it. Also seems pretty clear the "rave reviews from advance screenings" was likely an astroturf, albeit less sketchy than the Flash one.
  4. It's....not gonna be that marketable anyway IMO because it's a remake of something already done with an older, better cast, but yeah, deadly tornadoes do not qualify as escapism anymore.
  5. I mean, I like the fact that it DOESN'T look like the "default 2020s" cinematographic filter. Hopefully they don't go the "REAL IS BROWN" or "everything should have zero lighting" trends. To me, this does not look like a super high concept film. Certainly more accesible than something like Poor Things or a lot of A24 films. Also if we're going by the "advance reviews/screenings mean its gonna bomb!" metric.....hoo boy, is that a stupid and innacurate way to measure a film's potential impact.
  6. Please stop making movie titles consisting of "(thing) Guy(s)". It always leads to a poor opening.
  7. ....I could see it doing over 40 mil. Not over 50 unless it dramatically spikes.
  8. Considering I haven't heard any reports of If becoming a meme movie in any way, I'll take "no" over "flying pandas fart out peppermint bubbles and If becomes the next Gentleminions" for my theory on this one.
  9. If isn't getting "Gentleminions". That ONLY happened because Minions was already popular.
  10. What I'm saying is no one will pay for "WB" as a whole. Loads of unprofitable cable channels and other crap still.
  11. I doubt people will want to buy all of WB and absorb its even more massive debt load either.
  12. She can "go it alone" for now but all that will do will increase the likelihood that Paramount will end up getting sold for parts later. Most buyers aren't interested in dozens of unprofitable cable channels.
  13. I'm increasingly skeptical on tracking given how much Fall Guy underperformed "studio tracking". It didn't underperform the actual tracking ON HERE but unless I see a big groundswell for IF I think Garfield will be the main "pure kids" movie.
  14. I actually don't think the family market is as starved as people claim. Ghostbusters and Kung Fu Panda already came out. You'd think NOTHING targeted families since Wonka the way people on here talk.
  15. Its real world performance tracks more to Metacritic than the "It coulda been Maverick" so I'll take my word that people use Metacritic over yours.
  16. I seriously don't even remember the first Fall Guy trailer. This movie's marketing was a total botch compared to something like Civil War. Yeah a stuntman movie isn't "zeitgeisty" but they had no idea what they were selling compared to how comparable action films are usually marketed.
  17. ...okay, but I seriously don't remember that. It felt very muted even compared to the Civil War "THIS COULD HAPPEN TOMORROW" stuff.
  18. That's one way of looking at it. The other way is that people did not seem very "buzzed" about seeing Fall Guy before or after reviews dropped, which would have been evident in a spike in advance sales. After all the hype it got ON HERE (but not really on other sites) it'll likely do a bit better than Civil War for its week 1 and cost the studio a lot more. If there had been a single scene or aspect to the movie that was "hyped" (even if it were controversial) I would have changed my tune.
  19. General audiences use Metacritic all the time. It gets noted all the time for video games, it's not an obscure website. More importantly, it tracks how the critics actually feel about the movie other than good/bad. Fall Guy did not have the kind of "divisive" response Joker did that actually propelled the movie, nor did it have the near-universal praise of something like Oppenheimer or Minus One. It was "this is a good action movie" not "this is an absolute world beater and savior of movies".
  20. Again, nobody is actually going to remember the "high" scores if the actual buzz is "good, not great" for a movie they weren't terribly interested in in the first place. Fall Guy's Metacritic is a more realistic 73/100.
  21. There's a difference between "good but not great" Fresh reviews and "SEE NOW" Fresh reviews.
  22. Starting to think CJohn needs a ban, or at least a warning. My trolling is like Groucho Marx in comparison.
  23. They shouldn't have done the whole Barbenheimer. They should have done Fall Guy Meets Guy from HARLEM instead.
