  1. This is why I have the OW at $55M still, which combined from Wed-Thurs would around $75M-ish for the 5-day. Seems a bit low when looking at it's budget but like I've mentioned before, $55M would be around the same 3-day opening as Rogue Nation had. It would also have a bigger opening 5-day then Rogue Nation had as well (though tbf Rogue Nation opened on a Friday, not a 1-to-1 comparison). Turns out Rogue Nation is the baseline for the series after all.
  2. Barbenheimer will impact everything regardless, but it will be interesting cause this will be the first major M:I film with signification competition in it's second weekend. The first one's biggest was Dragonheart. The second film had basically nothing until Gone in 60 Seconds which hit two-ish weeks later (and M:I2 also opened on Wednesday like Dead Reckoning did). The third film had Poseidon which bombed. Ghost Protocol had a bizarre release where it opened in a limited IMAX release where it had an absolutely huge per theater average and then went on to leg out for like a month so I'm not sure we should count it. Rogue Nation had Fant4stic which lmao. Fallout actually didn't have any major competition until The Meg which two weeks later. Maybe the real lesson is that Dead Reckoning should have swapped release dates with Haunted Mansion.
  3. So much doom and gloom right now. I'm holding steadfast until the end of the weekend to fully make a judgment, if I even have any. Still staying firm that this will leg out and do Rogue Nation numbers. Refuse to budge from this.
  4. Getting Iman Vellani to write this herself is so great. Can't wait to read this.
  5. It will depend on several factors. On the one hand, if the distributor (whether it be GKids, Sony, Disney, or whoever) picks it up, it's possible they wait till next year to have a better chance at the Oscar. However, there is always the slight chance Japan picks it as their International Feature contender for this year's Oscar, which they have done before (Princess Mononoke, Weathering with You) so if they do that then it has to compete for the Oscars this year.
  6. Would love to see it get nominated but I think the cynical part of my brain just knows it's not happening. And I don't know if it was another grand epic like Mononoke or Spirited Away they would have nominated it either, the Academy has struck out too many times with animated films for me to trust them. Both Soul and Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio were widely seen as possible Best Picture favourites and both failed to get in. Pinocchio in particular felt like the prime opportunity but even that underperformed at the Academy (no Song or Score despite getting nominated everywhere else for it) so I'd be content with an Animated Feature win and that's it.
  7. If you enjoyed the film well enough I think you would really love the series. Obviously considering it's length that's easier said then done but the show/manga is one of my favourite stories in fiction. Well worth the ride.
  8. Great movie by the way. Unsure how common of an opinion it is but I found Film Red to be one of One Piece's strongest theatrical entries, lots of great experimental animation and Goro Taniguchi brings his signature weirdness and focus on emotion>story that he learned from Code Geass over to it. It makes sense that it made as much as it did.
  9. Yeah it sounds like Miyazaki's The Tale of Princess Kaguya which is fantastic to me. Also likely means Oscar nomination for Animated Feature is a lock if that's the case.
  10. https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/review/how-do-you-live/.200280 Early American review from ANN, pretty glowing outside of a couple of quibbles. I'm thinking it's possible it could be a critical darling but audiences are more "eh" on it, which happens. Especially since it sounds from early impressions this is one of Miyazaki's "artsier" films.
  11. Tom Conti. This isn't his first roundabout with Nolan either, he played the prisoner who takes care of Bruce in The Dark Knight Rises.
  12. It's happened again at this year's Emmys. Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies just got nominated for two Emmys and yet it was removed by Paramount for tax write-off. Even if I don't like a show or a movie I just don't understand leaving things unreleased or pulling shows and movies. It turns the medium into as corporate as you can get and it's fundamentally anti-art.
  13. Hard to remember but the first Shrek was mainly for adult audiences, and the second, while definitely marketed towards kids, probably already had a built in adult audience due to that.
  14. Yikes. The only thing that makes me think it will fair somewhat better then that film is the much, much stronger WOM this one has compared to The Last Knight's absolutely toxic reception.
  15. Which would put it closer to Rogue Nation then Fallout, which sounds about right.
  16. I've been checking the weekend showings at my local theater and it's selling much better then it did on Wednesday when I went and today. I feel like legs will be good.
  17. Yeah this is why I'm hesitant to include it myself. Shinij's status as LGBTQ+ is... interesting to say the least. In the manga version of Eva (which is written by one of the major creative forces of the original show) he's canonically bisexual and that's part of some of the drama surrounding his relationship with Kaworu cause he's deeply in denial about it. The anime version in both continuities it's a little bit more ambiguous, though there is a clear attraction between the two that's obvious. Kaworu on the other hand is explicitly gay and his relationship with Shinji is critical to the heart of both his appearance in the show as well 3.0 (which is an incredible film btw). He's not in End of Eva very much though due to plot stuff and because of that, along with some of the other discussion we've had about whether or not to include subtextual stuff and the eventual decision we came to makes me hesitant to include it personally. TL;DR I would be far more comfortable including 3.0 then End of Eva if you wanted an Eva film on there.
  18. I want them to move Cap 4 back to May cause it would be the funniest thing of all time
  19. What I would do is not greenlight anything for a while or be more selective with it. Anything in production/active development can be worked on for sure (especially if there are already people hired) but I'd say slow down on the actual greenlighting.
  20. *gets back from work* Damn, what a long day. Time to relax and see what my fellow BOT users have to say about the weekday. Hopefully nothing too insane! *opening chat and seeing 10 pages arguing about Elemental, Sound of Freedom, and MI7 vs. Barbie*
  21. Yep. Big reason as to why the Soviets were the villains in Crystal Skull (outside of the Cold War setting).
