People really need to stop seeing Oppenheimer as a rule. It's an exception. Plus it has Nolan, which in itself is an IP of some sort. He has a built-in audience that will watch his movies regardless of what kind of genre he makes.

I loved the first season of Ted Lasso. It was probably my favourite TV series of that year. But I haven't gotten around to watching S2 and S3 yet because of all the negative reviews lol

Some of the complaints are the very definition of white saviour POV. "We made a movie about your history, what else do you want?"

Honestly Tom Cruise makes actual effort in that regard lol.

I know Scorsese did his best as a white man making this movie, but I still have some issues with portraying Ernest as still being love with Lily even though he helped killed her whole family. It's probably what happened in the book and maybe even real life but it still makes me very uncomfortable. Like what the interview said, how can someone love you when they did that kind of thing.

Does it need to be made with 200m though? An independent film from the POV of the Osage would probably be much cheaper.

At first I didn't think Oppenheimer would resonate with a lot of people but I do think the two wars going on right now really helped people connect with the movie.

I was just watching a video review of KotM and the person mentioned that basically most cinephiles will watch KotM while "normies" are completely uninterested.

Yeah that's exactly what I think. He's a pull but he's not as big of a pull as people make him out to be. I do think people cut Scorsese and Leo the slack they don't give to other movies. The whole filmbros comment would've come out by now if it wasn't Scorsese. I like Leo's movies way more than Tom Cruise's, but after the flop of MI7 people say Leo's the only draw left, then you look at the box office records, Tom Cruise is clearly still doing way better. I guess you could argue that all of the MI movies are part of a franchise and not the original, "serious" contents that Leo choose. But still. I feel like there are a lot of double standards from people.

I mean I do think Leo is a draw but I am not sure if he's as big of a draw as people make him out to be. His two biggest movies were directed by Cameron and Nolan, both are bigger draw than a lot of actors.

I never understood why people assumed Killers would do well just because Oppenheimer did well. Nolan makes blockbusters. If you don't count his earlier films, literally the only one that didn't profit since2008 was Tenet. Somehow people just assumed that his next film would flop based on Tenet's numbers and conveniently ignores the fact that it was released at the height of the pandemic.

I am really confused as to how much a jump can promos give to a movie. Personally I usually get interested in a movie, watch it and then watch the actor interviews afterwards.

The fact that Nolan has built up a dedicated audience over the years, his whole brand of must-see in IMAX mentality, and that it's a good movie with mass appeal. I mean I respect Scorsese but he was never a huge box office draw. His highest worldwide box office is at like 400m.

His next movie already sounds expensive, but if Apple's also backing it then he has no worries.

Still really confused why Killers won't show in China. It literally has nothing (I think?) that would offend the audience and would help to make the international numbers a little prettier.

Even though I get that Apple doesn't care about the money I am still confused as to where the money went tbh. Like with MI7 I can at least see in the action sequence where the bulk of the cost is, that and COVID.
