  1. I’m seeing Gitesh and ERC saying the actual was 82,505,391.
  2. I think I found the transcript here: https://seekingalpha.com/article/4672969-warner-bros-discovery-inc-wbd-q4-2023-earnings-call-transcript
  3. Updated weekend estimates from Box Office Report: Wonka: $6.72M (-20.7%) Migration: $5.46M (-12.4%) I think Migration may edge out ABY for 4th place. Very good holds for the family films.
  4. I’m curious why the tone around this film’s performance is so negative on here? Maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t think $500 million world wide was being predicted for it a few months ago, so anything beyond that is stellar to me. Am I missing something?
  5. In his latest article, Scott Mendelson says the global total is at $346 million as of now. Has this been sourced anywhere else?
  6. I’m not sure I would call it “hate”, but I think the Cinema Score was likely a result of some not knowing it was a musical, and possibly from those expecting a different take on the character. For what it’s worth, the RT audience score has risen to 90% now. I personally think it’s a little early to judge what this film’s run is going to look like.
  7. If that’s only based on those who saw it last night so far, do we think it was really the target audience? My guess was more likely Dahl/Willy Wonka fanatics who maybe didn’t jibe with this musical prequel, but I could be wrong. I’m interested to see what the Cinema Score ends up being.
  8. I’m seeing 85% from 46 reviews on RT’s website. Average is 7.9/10 from the reviews posted.
  9. Box Office Pro has up their long range article for TCP: https://www.boxofficepro.com/long-range-box-office-forecast-the-color-purple-hopes-to-stand-out-over-christmas-and-new-years/ They have it at $13+M for OW. They also updated Wonka’s projection to $32-$42M OW / $175-$252M total (up 20%). Aquaman and Migration have both gone down.
  10. I personally feel confused by the extent of the backlash. Do ANY people disagree that it would be inappropriate to share shitty music by a band spelled H-a-m-a-s? That is the “punchline” of the joke. If you’re offended by the use of that name in any context, I understand. But I just disagree that it was targeting Palestinians or commenting on the genocide. Though as you said, that is just my POV and others can disagree. Regarding the film, I agree that this likely will not have any impact.
  11. I don’t disagree, but SNL has always referenced current events and done it in way more blatant and offensive ways than this. (And I don’t find much of their comedy funny in general.) I just personally think the backlash has been blown way out of proportion.
  12. I’m curious if people have watched the sketch or only read about it on social media? I honestly think it’s been blown out of promotion, but everyone is free to have their own opinion. ETA: thought I would just do a quick recap, for those who have not seen it themselves. The Hamas joke is about 15 seconds of a 3.5 min sketch. Timothée’s character doesn’t think he has anything to live for, when 3 guys try to talk him off the ledge of a building. He admits he has a band, but after playing them some of the music, it turns out it’s awful. He requests they help share his stuff and when they ask the name of his band, he says it’s Haymous (like famous), but when he spells it, it’s H-a-m-a-s. The guys say they aren’t going to share music from a band called Hamas. And then the sketch continues. I totally understand if you think it was insensitive to even mention Hamas at all, but I don’t feel that it is pro-either side (I think both sides would be offended to have that name associated with this guys’ shitty music). To me, the joke was more showing this white guys’ ignorance to not realize that the spelling of his band name could he offensive.
  13. Trying to maintain your optimism, but everything with this has felt very “one step forward, two steps back”. 😝 Let’s see how things progress today.
  14. I actually think you’re right on the money with this. There was this quote in tonight’s THR article: “SAG-AFTRA declines to comment due to our ongoing negotiations and deep focus on negotiating in good faith to secure a fair deal for SAG-AFTRA members,” said a SAG-AFTRA spokesperson. https://x.com/thr/status/1722156529854357656?s=46&t=wMBhEe54n401F6TKB_JL-g
  15. Deadline is quoting GUILD sources confirming the agreement on AI. Is this finally it??!
  16. Hmmm…in the article from a different trade last night (Deadline), it was indicated that there was still “serious daylight” between the two parties on some things. So I’m not sure what to make of this Variety reporting, unless AI issues were resolved last night and the daylight is referencing the residuals or something else? I want to be hopeful but think we should wait for something directly from SAG-AFTRA.
