Didn't get a chance to see Strange World unfortunately. but it looked liked of mediocre tbh. This is probably gonna come down to GDT's Pinocchio and Turning Red tbh. Both good. but kind of a weak year for animation if you'd ask me. no Luca level greats this year.

Probably. I am waiting till tomorrow to see it, so I can watch it in IMAX 3D. which I bought my ticket for about a week ago and was already selling out. I imagine many people are doing the same. Still a disappointing opening. we are looking at $135m opening weekend. give or take $10m I would say. It's going to be pretty leggy I am sure. but weather it has original avatar legs we will have to wait and see.

If you want it as a surprise you can PM me. I freed up some space in my inbox now. just post on here that you did. Only two weeks to go. I have re-watched all the way to Empire Strikes Back this year now. I probably won't get to TRS by the end of the month so I will most likely extend the deadline, I would like as many edits done as possible by the Jan 1st though so i can start tabulating. Empire Strikes Back is so much better than A New Hope after re-watch, its a near perfect film imo. Don't get me wrong A New Hope is great. but it has a lot of pretty big flaws in it and more than a few questionable narrative choices (Mostly Luke and Leia's muted responses to their family's deaths and in Leia's case ENTIRE planet being wiped out). I feel like that was a narrative choice for the director though. surely they weren't so bad of actors they weren't even able to cry/ mourn. It's not even in my top 3 at this point. Well Obviously Mark Hamill can because

The problem imo isn't has nothing to do with the post-pandemic fears. it is the over saturation of and wide availability of movies on streaming and or releasing them too soon on streaming platforms for FREE. the fix is simple. stop releasing everything on VOD 20 days after it's in theaters and NOTHING should be on streaming planforms any less then 60 days after it is in theaters. yes for a time the films would not make as much money. but in time, while as a whole they may not reach pre-pandemic levels, people will adapt to it and start actually going to see these movies. Going to the movies in a theater, is one of my favorite pastimes and I don't want to only see $200M+ blockbusters when I go. Hollywood is being way to knee-jerk reaction, the BO wasn't going to recover over night after the pandemic. and they are really shooting themselves in the foot by dropping everything on streaming.

Star Wars: Andor - Disney+ - September 21, 2022
Kalo replied to Ryan Reynolds's topic in Streaming, TV Series, & VOD Movies
Andor has been Nominated for a Golden Globe Award. for Andor Himslef. Deigo Luna Sadly it was snubbed in all the other categories. but the fact that it is getting noticed by the Golden Globes in a acting category is kind of a big deal. Still Should have got Best Drama Series, best supporting actor Stellan Skarsgård, best supporting actor Kyle Soller best supporting actor Andy Serkis, Best Supporting actress Denise Gough, and Best Supporting Actress Genevieve O'Reilly all should have gotten noms imo. -
I loved this movie. although it made me wish I had perused my dream as a filmmaker harder at that age and made me kind of sad. but I guess it's never too late they say. What I don't understand is how they really didn't give this film a chance at he box office. it's easily the best Spielberg film I've seen in probably over a decade. and seems like a film that could garner a fairly wide audience. and they only put it in about 600 theaters over thanksgiving? I had to drive about an hour to see it as it was. sure maybe it would't have made $100m+ but with a wider release it should have easily got to $30m+ or even 40/50m. it's like they totally gave up on anything that wasn't a blockbuster this season.

So I just saw "The Fabelmans and I loved it, but does anyone know if Gabriel LaBelle would be listed as a lead? he is the main character. but he is a young actor (probably under 20 when they filmed it) and the academy loves to shun young actors or put them in supporting. there is an argument that him and Paul Dano could both be listed as leads. but just wondering. (although I'm not sure either will be nominated) Machelle Williams was pretty astounding as well. thinking she would be listed as lead as well though.

I guess I'm becoming an old soul at my old age. I ranked it pretty high.

Well we aren't doing negatives anymore due to popular vote. I was a bit unsure about it to begin with otherwise I would have went with it regardless of what people thought. I thought it might be an interesting experiment to try, but it may be for the better I didn't use it. However even if I had. you can't rank 1 Season of a show as bad. you have to rank the entire show/ movie.

That's a good question, I hadn't really thought about that. I just watched light and Magic, which is about the formation of the VFX studio which was created while making star wars and it was fantastic. I also loved Empire of Dreams but it has been a long time since I've seen it. But I might be leaning towards because this is all "In World" Star Wars content. and it might be hard to rank it along side docs. But I do list it as "All Star Wars Media" So give me an argument for it, and I might consider it.

Seeing Glass Onion today. What's so frustrating about this weekend is that it's almost like they wanted it to fail. Had Glass Onion been given a full theatrical release this could have been the #1 film this weekend. The Fabelmens should have been given a wide release this weekend as well, it still managed over $2m in just over 600 theaters. had it been playing in around 4,000 theaters it may have gotten to $10m. Strange World had almost no marketing and animation and sci-fi is kind of a hard sell to begin with. but with better marketing this could have opened to at least $20m3d/$30m5D imo I'm a little surprised Bones and All made so little, but it was never going to be a large BO grosser. What should have been: Glass Onion A Knives out Mystery $50,000,000 / $73,000,000 Black Panther 2 $46,000,000 / $64,000,000 Strange World $20,000,000 / $30,000,000 (with better marketing, still not great but not a colossal bomb) The Fabelmens $10,000,000 / $15,000,000 Devotion $6,000,000 / $9,000,000
