Admissions are important, especially comparing overall trends like we can see how different it was during Gone With the Winds time so I care about it. However, personally I care about gross way more. If I am producer and I had to choose between Movie A grossing 1,000 with 20 50 dollar tickets sold Movie B grossing 500 with 100 5 dollar tickets sold I am happier with movie A anyday.

Because of the local film festival in Christmas every year. Some of the big pre Christmas blockbusters opt to just open in January. I actually think that is a better strategy than opening before Christmas for a week and then disappearing for 2 weeks. The buzz is gone when you return.

I hope people are still interested when it comes back in January 8

Saw Avatar on a regular 2d screen Bad news it was around 1/5th full. Reall bad for a Saturday 8:30 showing. Good news I watched it here because the Imax cinema which is more than double the price was nearly sold out. I didn't want to sit in the corner or wait another day. Better news I really enjoyed the movie and felt it was an awesome cinematic experience. I did feel the loss of James Horner during the action scenes. -
I love how punctual Korea is at posting numbers. Like everyday you know exactly what time the website will update daily top ten

These initial numbers wouldn't be so disappointing to me personally if my expectations hadn't been raised by the initial projections from international presales. But I am still hopeful and optimistic that legs will be really great -
I think a finals loss might be good for the boxoffice with a lot of people going to the cinema to cheer themselves up

Yeah, people couldn't wait for Spiderman. There are are no such complaints this year. There is more interest in the MMFF here this year and I think some films like Family Matters and Partners in Crime will be successful though not at Maid's level -

Anecdotally there is room for optimism as my casual friends who don't usuallu go to cinemas plan to see it this weekend or next week when they have time. The big problem for Avatar here is that every year Dec 25 to Jan 7 no foreign movies may be shown only local movies, the Governments way of supporting the local industry so Avatar won't play during the busiest times of the cinema. It will play until 24 and then come back to cinemas here on Jan 8 -

Here in the Philippines that is the full opening day. Movies regularly open here on Wednesdays. I am seeing it on Sat night. One issue is there aren't a lot of high end cinemas here. The Black Panther showing I went to the screen was so dark I couldn't see anything during some of the evening scenes. So if people aren't wowed leaving the theater it might affect word of mouth here. -
Encanto would have been huge pre pandemic. Disney fans adored it. The Bruno song trending on social media if the film was still in theaters would have greatly extended the legs. A lot of my friends raved about the movie in social media after they saw it on streaming. Side not, I just watched Thirteen Lives. Really well made, I think this is the type of film that would have been a word of mouth 150 million grosser in the late nineties early 2000's

Is it possible they are corporate block screenings?
