Darlene Love is hardly just a backup singer. She's had a successful solo career. Really shouldn't have even been in the movie.

Good for Disney. Not my fav of theirs needless to say, but they're long overdue for an animated oscar.

Growing up as a Christian I for one never liked focusing on Jesus' death and torture. I preferred actually learning about his life and the good things he did over his death and agony. Maybe that's why I'm no longer Christian.

Christians sure do love watching their savior being tortured. Whip him and they will come.

Finally opened here today so I got to see it. First half was a bit slow, but it was extremely well done. The love story was better than 99% of love stories in live action movies today.

I dunno. 2011 was by far the weakest year since I've followed the Oscars and that year was a lock all along for The Artist. Nothing else even stood a fraction of a chance of winning. So I don't think them being weak has to do with why it's a close race. It's a close race because the Academy is torn between awarding the "politically correct" film with top honors and the one that's the actual Best Picture. The fact that the former is an Oscar baiting true story drama and the latter is the much ignored Sci-fi genre certainly muddles things up as well.

1. Gravity: A+ 2. Wolf of Wall Street: A 3. Her: A- 4. Philomena: A- (Is a funnier comedy for me than Nebraska or Hustle, and resonated much stronger on an emotional level than other dramas like 12YAS, DBC, and Phillips) 5. Nebraska: A- 6. 12 Years a Slave: B+ 7. American Hustle: B+ 8. Dallas Buyers Club: B- (I felt this was an entirely mediocre movie elevated by two excellent performances.) 9. Captain Phillips: C- (Still don't get the love for this one at all. Boring as hell and oh so bloated)

I've never understood how anyone can prefer Inception to TDK. I mean Inception is a damn good movie, don't get me wrong, but TDK is one of the only movies I will call a masterpiece without a second's hesitation.

I'd love for Philomena to win anything. It's definitely the most underrated of the noms for me. Prefer it to all except Gravity, WoWS, and maybe Her.

True to an extent. Although TDK, Inception, Avatar, and now Gravity all say hi.
