So true. When I went to the LOTR marathon yesterday I was shocked myself at how diverse the audience was. I saw mother/daughters, buddy groups, girlfriend groups, 60 year olds, 10 year olds, and pretty much everything else. And no one group dominated. It was the total opposite of when I did the Avengers marathon and it was almost all guys under 40 and a lot of what you would call "comic geeks." LOTR really did hit every audience which is great for Hobbit's OW.
I'm expecting sub 30% drops for a lot of things this weekend (Pi, Lincoln, Ralph, Flight, maybe even Skyfall). There's nothing new to see and a ton of movies right now have great WOM.
Lol, I think you're missing the point. The point being a house really can be lifted by balloons. Obviously they exaggerated it for an animated movie, but it can be done nonetheless.
10x is highly unlikely for Lincoln, but with WOM being so good, the holidays, and extreme awards buzz you never know. I'll stick with it having The Blind Side's multi though (7.5x).
DINOSAUR's trailer was EPIC. It still kinda is:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCqYuBIFE5IToo bad everything that followed that opening scene was atrocious. I've always wondered though why that concept of using the opening sequence for a trailer hasn't really been used again much. It can be a great way to sell it.
I guess, but honestly I never expected it to do more than exactly what it's doing so it doesn't even seem like it's underperforming to me. Just doing as expected (for me at least).
Aside from Man With the Iron Fists (which was never gonna do anything anyways) all the new releases this month have performed great. Even Red Dawn is making a dent.
I said the trailer was straightforward. You knew what the premise and what it was about so people could then decide if that appealed to them. Cloud Atlas' trailer was impossible to derive the basic premise from and therefore it couldn't appeal to people. I love the movie but even I can 100% understand how and why it didn't do any better. Most people aren't gonna "get" it and it's not gonna be for them. And have you seen Pi? You're missing out big time by the way if you're gonna write Pi off like that without even seeing it.
