  1. Even if they include Tobey, my man Sam potentially directing Avengers movies bums me out a bit. If he has to do a 'One for them, one for me,' I'd rather it were for something kookier like Doctor Strange 3 or even Fantastic 4. These Avengers movies are far removed from the earnest 60s/70s fanboy that he is.
  2. You’ve got several other movies coming out, one being Tim Burton’s “Beetlejuice 2.” Can you talk to me about working with Burton and reveal what character you play? I haven’t seen any footage yet, but it was fun to do. I play a police officer in the afterlife, so I’m a dead person. And in life I was a B-movie action star, but I had an accident and that’s what sent me to the other side. But because of my skills, I became a detective character in the afterlife. So that’s my job. But it’s colored by the fact of who I was [when I was alive]: a B movie action star. Willem Dafoe Talks 'Poor Things,' Reveals Role in 'Beetlejuice 2'<strong> </strong> (variety.com)
  3. I can't speak for anywhere else, but our curriculum is objectively more ambitious and challenging than it has ever been. I hear parents and other teachers daily complain about how 'easy' children have got in nowadays, but it's just not true at all. 11-year-olds need to be able to use and understand passive voice, subjunctive form, semi colons, colons, dashes, commas for clarity.... If they can't, they are not working at 'the expected standard'. You know when I learned those things? When I became a teacher. I got by studying English Literature at a fairly prestigious university not knowing what an 11-year-old needs to know now.
  4. Another viewpoint - I'm a teacher and I am forever amazed at how much better than standard of English teaching and learning is compared to when I was a kid. I'd say the average child I teach is able to read and write far, far more skilfully and purposefully than 95% of people I know. We also romanticise how we were in the past. Children have a short attention span nowadays? I deliver training for teachers, and I can say without doubt that children are far, far better at actively listening than adults.
  5. It was alright. One thing with this franchise is that the supporting cast is going to be spot on. Davis, Schwartzman and even Dinklage are all really fun in this. The last third is a bit of a slog, but it was in the book, too, and the movie, like the previous three, is largely just the book in live action. The first movie remains the most interesting cinematically and as an adaptation.
  6. Francis Lawrence is one of the quintessential directors for hire. This is a decent enough book so it will make a decent enough movie. He was never gonna elevate anything.
  7. Well this is what you get if you diss Carpenter's The Fog. If I were to dislike that movie, I'd be too embarrassed to ever leave my house.
  8. DGG is a white man who is coming off three financially successful horror movies and is known for being a nice guy and fun to work with. He'll be more than fine. This all seems very dramatic.
  9. I'm an Ends truther and thought this was ok. I liked the first act and most of the third act, but the legacy stuff is really silly. I know Burstyn is above all this and doing it to raise money for other actors, but I still felt embarrassed for her.
  10. Fey was comfortably the weak link in the excellent cast. I thought she would kill the role, but her more dramatic moments fell flat. Fun fact: Fey was almost cast in Death on the Nile before Disney ordered another lot of reshoots for Artemis Fowl.
  11. Really enjoyed this. Felt almost like an amalgamation of several other Christie titles. The denouement suffers because of how loosely they follow Christie, but it helps that Hallowe'en Party is lesser Christie anyway. Tina Fey struggled with her more dramatic moments, but this is the first of these in forever where it felt like all suspects had their moment(s). The balance was just right on this one. I'd love twenty more, but I'm more than content if this is Branagh's last. He's leaving on a high after the all-round disaster of DotN's pre-production and post-production. Everyone knows about the latter, but the former was bad as well. I can't help but wonder if this movie even getting made is partly an apology for that.
  12. Variety says the budget is $60M Box Office: 'A Haunting in Venice' Targets $15 Million Debut - Variety
  13. I disagree with this big time. The show was mostly boring but it looked incredible.
  14. Oooooh. I didn't know this. Let me change my rating for The Batman from 6/10 to 9/10 and start stanning its sequel.
  15. I thought it was terribly effective at times, but the movie is very overscored. There are a lot of scenes that didn't need music. I've ordered the 2xCD from Mondo.
  16. Picture of Jenna from the set. Glad that she doesn't look to be mini-Lydia or Wednesday v2.
  17. I thought it was mostly cute, but the ending really, really got me. I like it all the more I think about it. The deepfake stuff was as awful as ever, though. Stop that nai!
  18. There's never been a role played by the Skarsgard boys that wouldn't have been better portrayed by their dad.
  19. I finished my rewatch there, and I know I'm late to the party, but the colour correction on Kingdom of the Crystal Skull really makes the movie better. I had the best time with Temple of Doom.
