  1. I think the Gale fight/chase gave us all the bite that we love and expect from Gale. It's the way that they have Gale be like a surrogate mother to her like two interactions later. Also, with Tara and Sam knowing Gale's address, it's implied they were at least somewhat close. I dunno. Seems like they undid a lot of her character for just a call-back gag.
  2. I agree with the points made about McAdams taking charge, but at the same time I do love that Rachel McAdams deserving the best is one of like three things that everyone agrees with.
  3. Gale writing that book still bothers me. It didn't even add anything to the movie!
  4. Sets being built. Beetlejuice 2 Finally in Production? - Mad Monster
  5. Fun fact for this movie that I love. Danny Elfman loved Evil Dead so much that he told his agent he would work with Sam Raimi on anything. After Batman, Raimi asked Elfman to score Darkman. When filming Army of Darkness, Raimi needed a cue for the March of the Dead sequence. He had no money. Elfman wrote and recorded the piece for free because he loved Evil Dead so much. Actress Bridget Fonda loved Evil Dead, too. When Raimi needed an actress to play Linda for the flashbacks in Army of Darkness, Fonda did so for free. Later, Raimi cast Fonda in A Simple Plan. Elfman was asked to write the score. Elfman visited the set one day and met Fonda. Fast-forward to 2002. Raimi has a birthday party. Elfman and Fonda reconnect and begin a relationship. They marry the following year. In 2005 they have a son, Oliver. They often tell him that he is 'The Son of the Evil Dead'. Fast-forward to 2023. Evil Dead Rises opens. Two of the main characters are called Danny and Bridget. There's also a truck with 'Fonda' written on it.
  6. I'm not fussed on Murder on the Orient Express, but I'll die on the hill that Death on the Nile was good. I think Michael Green did a great job trimming and adding to the story. In the Bouc interrogation scene I was completely unsure of what was happening/going to happen - and I've read the book several times, seen the 1978 movie a dozen times and seen the Suchet version.
  7. It's been said that this is a big genre shift from the other two. I wonder if they've made it more of a horror movie.
  8. Booked for Saturday. I've rewatched the Raimi trilogy this week and will rewatch the 2013 movie tomorrow. Non-stop bangers.
  9. Batman Returns is a miracle. It's gorgeous but disgusting, cynical but sincere, cold but empathetic, sexy but revolting. It's a million contradictory things at once, but it all just works. Pfeiffer gives the best performance in any of these movies. Elfman's score is his masterpiece - the way the Batman, Penguin and Catwoman themes all share the same notes. We've never seen anything like it, and we will never see anything like it again. It might be a silly thing to say, but the IMDB rating goes up routinely every other year, too. It was like 6.3 back in the day. Now it's 7.1. The more of these movies come out, the more Batman Returns stands out. Also, the huge Superbowl reaction certainly wasn't for 2x Ezra Miller.
  10. Interest in THG started to fade when they left the arena. I think having an actual Hunger Games is gonna be a big draw for people. This will surprise.
  11. It was originally set to debut on HBOMax. They changed their minds after it tested so well.
  12. Yeah. Jenna also has Beetlejuice 2 and then Wednesday Season 2 (the first season shot for eight months). I think we're gonna be waiting a while.
  13. It does look fun. Honestly looks more fun than Ant-Man 3 ever looked and GotG 3 currently looks. I know the movies couldn't be further apart in terms of genre, but Candyman looked absolutely incredible and it is disappointing to see how flat this looks.
  14. The first Hunger Games is better than the book and the best movie in the series. Gary Ross did some really cool stuff there. Lawrence's workman approach worked grand for Catching Fire, where the source material was stronger, but it was really exposed for both Mockingjay movies.
  15. Sam is the weakest part of 5 and the best part of VI. Fair play to the writers/directors/Barrera for doubling down and really going for it. And to be fair to Melissa, no actress in the world was selling that exposition dump in 5 in the hospital. That was some painful writing.
  16. Melissa Barrera is so much better in this one it's insane. The scene when Sam was crying about being 'hated' hits hard. The opening murder kinda got to me. Weaving's screaming was far too good. The ladder scene is horrifying. Scariest the franchise has been in years. The actress who played Anika really did a lot with no screentime. Gale's big scene was nerve-shredding. I loved her visibly turning her sadness over Dewey into determination to get the killer. Cox really killed it there. My audience roared at her asking the killer to hold. I liked Gale and Kirby's relationship. Cox continues to have great chemistry with everyone in this franchise. Loved the subway scene. Again, the first time Ghostface has been scary in a really long time. Great to see Panettiere again (even if I'm not quite convinced by her role). I loved the embracing of all the sequels. It's nice to have such a clear timeline in a long running horror franchise. I cackled at the fax machine from Scream 3. Though the execution was flat, the idea of Richie's family being what Sam is trying to avoid is a nice parallel. I like that it wasn't made explicit. Having said that... I find Gale writing the book about 5cream and throwing Sam under the bus really unnecessary - especially because she becomes warm Gale literally one scene later. Her writing a book and focusing on Dewey and refusing to make the story about Richie would've easily fed the 'Sam is the actual killer' narrative as well as justified how she didn't know about Richie's family. Mulroney is kinda awful in this. The meta stuff is just the writers owning up to cop outs. I really need this to stop. Jasmin Savoy Brown deserves so much more than having a Letterboxd account as a personality.
