BARBIE | 809.4M overseas | 1445.6M worldwide

Interesting. Doesn't Frozen share MANY similarities with Barbie (goofy humor, strong and beautiful/cute leading ladies, empowering feminist message) though? And yet their BO fates couldn't be more different. -

Is there any way of knowing if that dumb Twitter account reply and the ensuing controversy actually damaged Japan BO? -

With a small boost from NCD this Sunday, I think last 3 days of August are very possible -

Still the after effects of Chapek foolishly supporting DeSantis and then making a public show of disavowing him. Bitch wanted brownie points for doing the bare minimum but all he did was poop and attract the flies. -

Lack of stars doing press rounds hurt OS sales much more than DOM -

Gitesh set up high expectation by claiming it would pass 1.3B today or tomorrow. Will it be doing so on Tuesday? -
When it came out, there was a discussion over whether NWH being the first event film during the pandemic made it even bigger than it would have been. Can't say for sure though as the Tom Holland and Zendaya power couple had amassed a huge Gen Z following and adding Maguire and Garfield brought in older audiences too. It would have been humongous pandemic or no pandemic. TGM and Barbie became zeitgeist movies with solid to superb openings but then turned into unmissable water cooler topics, which was reflected in amazing legs. Kinda meh regarding Avatar 2's performance. Obviously it made crazy numbers but it was also the sequel to the biggest film of all time and there was no competition for a month and a half. Curious to see how it would have done during an insanely crowded frame like this summer.

Eh the brand is in major trouble and to believe otherwise just because the CFO came out saying 'Nothing to see here. Everything's fine' (in itself a red flag) is delusional That doesn't really take away from my point. Lightyear's performance and Elemental's opening only justified the concern over Disney undermining Pixar as a brand. And now we're back to the failsafe of sequels. The brand is fucked if TS5 and IO2 underperform.

And that was Infinity War/Endgame's fault more than FFH's. FFH is better than HC IMO because it is less overstuffed, has less of mentor/father/owner Iron Man, more of Zendaya and well, Mysterio is fun. HC could have been something really special if it had actually given Tomei's Aunt May more to do. FFH had to write her out of the plot because of the Europe trip, which I understand was needed to give Peter a break after the IW/Endgame trauma pile. Anyways more than half of the MCU is worse than the Spidey trilogy so find it weird people are fixated on the Spider-Films of all things.

Technically GL had a successful comics run in the 2000s because of Geoff Johns and that... was basically it. He was always more niche and even the John Stewart GL became more popular than Hal Jordan because of the animated series. Honestly Geoff Johns is a major issue with DC's unappealing lineup of movies. He's the reason they got to Shazam, Black Adam etc. before characters and teams people actually know about like Teen Titans*, Harley & Ivy/Gotham City Sirens etc. because he wrote those characters. It's like if the MCU tried to push GotG, Inhumans and Eternals before Avengers because some Eternals/Inhumans comic writer was calling the shots on the movie side. I see the same mistake being repeated in the Gunnverse too. Like who's gonna check out Swamp Thing and The Authority beyond a very tiny core fanbase? *Blue Beetle would have fared much better onscreen if he had been introduced in a Teen Titans film and then gotten his solo ala Black Panther/Holland Spidey getting launched by Civil War.

He was only talking about Elemental. I was talking about Pixar post-pandemic in general. Also the fact that he had to come out and say Elemental made profit is telling in itself. The leggy nature of the run and the OS heavy collections give it a smaller profit margin than the one regular metrics give you vs. TLM which had a big opening and DOM heavy performance.
