  1. Yeah no, a peak summer Pixar film shouldn't have been opening that terribly in the first place. It's good that Elemental managed to save face but a leggier run is less profitable for the studio with the studio/theatre profit sharing ratio sliding window. Being more OS heavy also hurts the profit margin. That DOM total would still be considered as a 'flop' number for a Pixar movie pre-pandemic. Pixar is not out of the red zone yet.
  2. JLo has (usually) been putting butts in seats since years though. Yeah, I don't think Supes is boring and unrelatable but that he needed the uwufication (in lack of a better term) that MAWS gives him to spell out the appeal for Gen Z. And the thing is, it suits his character VERY WELL. I've always felt the Lois and Clark romance plays more like a female fantasy than a male one and the show is fully capitalizing on that. A bit unsure of how Gunn will handle the characters, though casting Rachel Brosnahan as Lois is a good sign. It's mind-boggling the success of the original Wonder Woman film didn't lead to a WW animated series for those interested in getting to know her world better. Instead we got what's basically a Harley & Ivy show but then where is Margot Robbie's Harley & Ivy movie?? DC is all over the place with synergy.
  3. I didn't know this about no white and black love interests for Will but makes a lot of sense. BTW Michelle Yeoh would have killed it as Mal. Also, is losing Cotillard in TDKR a loss? XP We may have also gotten a racially accurate Al Ghul for once. DC credited El Diablo for Latinos driving the original Suicide Squad box office numbers. And I third the idea of focusing on Batman characters first before jumping to the rest of the DC Universe. That's what they did with animation in the 90s to great success. *I feel Legacy may be a hit though because there's a Superman/Lois romance meets action anime playing right now on Adult Swim that's doing incredibly well and turning Gen Z into fans of the character.
  4. LMAO Deadline! It's Barbie's 5th weekend after 4 weekends at #1
  5. If the conservative reaction is anything to go by, seems to be a case of When you can't beat em, join em. Reminder that even Super Mario Bros was initially trashed for its feminist Princess Peach but then was quickly embraced by the same groups once it was obviously a hit. There are some weird takes popping up here and there (like in Deadline comments section) saying Barbie is anti-woke and a satire of the 2020 election 'steal' (!) Can't look like a loser rooting against a bonafide winner so might as well try appropriating it.
  6. TDK had no stiff streaming competition, drop in theatrical attendance due to pandemic, another Nolan film releasing on the same day, shortened window before digital release, coming towards the end of a super crowded summer (2008 was crowded but nowhere near the bloodbath of 2023) etc. It also had the Heath Ledger effect to propel it. Still, getting upset after 15 years is dumb.
  7. Dubai has become very LA so not super shocked. Also, the entirety of the Middle East is not Taliban run Afghanistan. Increasingly, many cities and regions are becoming more vibrant and diverse with expats from all across the world. It's not the most liberal place on the planet, but things are slowly changing.
  8. She's close friends with Reynolds and Lively. He appeared in her You Need To Calm Down music video and Blake directed her I Hope You Think About Me MV.
  9. Yeah just make her sing for like 90% of her screentime and she'll be great. I know she will kill it at writing a mutant empowerment BOP.
  10. Celine? Michael Buble? Lol. Taylor Swift IS the music industry right now in a way that no one has been since Michael Jackson.
  11. Louis and Lestat still got it tho on AMC's Interview With the Vampire show
  12. If Deadpool is pushed back, chances of Disney putting The Marvels in May is greater than leaving the timeframe open for other studios.
  13. Paramount gave away so much free real estate only to stick all their films in the worst release dates possible 🤡
  14. I noticed they were silent over non-ginger Fillion being cast as a ginger. Can't qwhite figure out why 🤔
  15. It's not a MASSIVE success but something has to be said for Hariel breaking even despite the avalanche of hate directed at Halle and how much some ppl wanted the film to fail. Anyway TLM is the least of Iger's worries RN with Indy and Haunted Mansion bombage, Pixar floppage, Marvel floundering and future SW and WDAS installments looking unreliable. The fact that he's rumored to go back to the Disney Princess live action well for Rapunzel and Tiana already shows even TLM proved the remakes are a dependable form of revenue.
  16. Heard someone say that the best way to have avoided the 7 'magical creatures' mess was to keep the dwarves the same but also have Snow White and The Prince played by little people. And it made too much sense. Too bad no one at Disney thought of it before jumping the gun and casting Zegler.
  17. Good thing then that nobody considers it as Animation and Frozen 2/Incredibles 2 are the No.1 films WW and DOM
  18. Matt Smith is a boring choice and Joseph Quinn doesn't seem right for Johnny Storm but everyone else rumored to be in the mix I can get with. Kirby, Quaid, Patel (or Driver) and Diggs (or Moss-Bachrach) would make a great set (names in parenthesis being my second picks if they don't get the names preceding them).
  19. I guess it was very vital for TLM to have a global movie star like Smith/Jolie/Watson in order to blow up like her Renaissance siblings, especially as the original was smaller than the other films. He's not on the same level as a BO draw, but things would have been very, VERY different for Harry Styles RN if he had actually chosen Mermaid over Don't Worry Darling. I feel he would have given TLM the OS boost it desperately needed as well. That deal not going through hurt both parties IMO As it stands now, TLM is making a little more than Cinderella WW which in retrospect makes sense as Ariel and Cindy make about the same amount of Disney Princess merchandising $$
  20. I wish they had let Greta talk about this and clarify to the general Japanese public at the event as the backlash deliberately seeks to confuse people into thinking Barbie is making WW2 jokes too. Hopefully Japan BO still manages to emerge unscathed somehow. Imagine if Japan and South Korea are the only underperforming markets for a Barbie movie. Upside down world.
