  1. It just seems to be cyclical when the critics are the hardest on Disney after its highs. For Brother Bear, you actually have a perfect parallel in the MCU. You had a high in the Renaissance period (MCU Phase 3) but then films of decreasing quality in Dinosaur, Atlantis and Treasure Planet (Eternals, Multiverse of Madness and Love & Thunder). BB bore the critical brunt as it arrived in the Quantummania position. No way close to being the worst of the franchise but critics thought Disney needed a wake-up alarm at the time. Wish is probably in the BB/Quantumania spot after the high of the 2010's Revival era and then disappointments in Raya and Strange World.
  2. Tracking thread shows interest was building up for Songbirds but crashed as soon as the meh reviews dropped. It's kinda funny Lionsgate lifted the embargo early to coincide with The Marvels' late embargo lift, but The Marvels ended up having the higher RT score.
  3. At this point tho, even if Kathleen Kennedy is released tomorrow morning, the duration of her presidency is already double that of Trump's 😛 She has outlived all the hater demands to get her ousted for 6 years now. Any troll arguments will be weak and just for the sake of it.
  4. I honestly have no idea why Shadow and Bone got canned by Netflix. Even for Netflix, I thought it was popular enough to avoid the axe for at least a couple more seasons.
  5. Probably just a case of it not being confirmed yet as I don't think the usual suspects would consider him to be white. There have been many more actors in the MCU than 3 previously. Peter Dinklage in Infinity War, the Stark bros in Eternals, Emilia Clarke in Secret Invasion, the Lysa Arryn actress in Loki Season 2. I'm not counting appearances by folks who were in the MCU before they joined GOT like Natalie Dormer. Btw, Lena Headey was apparently playing Hera in Love and Thunder but her parts got cut.
  6. Did someone say female herald of Galactus? 👀 Marisa Tomei's return ticket is here
  7. This casting director is doing the bare minimum approaching the same 2 guys who keep popping up in geek media Ngl tho, glad Matt Smith seems to have moved on
  8. Aaron Samuels is being played by one of the The Summer I Turned Pretty bros. I feel he's more popular among Gen Z than Diego Boneta ever was. Angourie Rice is a great choice for Cady. She was destined to breakout after The Nice Guys but surprisingly the biggest role she got was the background Betty Brant in the MCU Spidey flicks. THIS finally might be the star-making turn for her. Renee Rapp who plays Regina is from the Broadway play and also starred in Mindy Kaling's Sex Lives of College Girls where she was supposed to be very good. Gretchen and Karen are being played by Disney+/Hulu stars. Bebe Wood was part of the cast of Love, Victor along with Scream's Mason Gooding while Avantika was the star of the Disney+ movie Spin as well as a number of Indian films. And this is the biggest live action movie role for Moana's Auli Kraval'ho who is playing Janis. The cast is promising as many of them are potential breakouts like McAdams, Seyfried and Caplan were when they appeared in the original film
  9. Deadpool 3 and Inside Out 2 look to be 2 of the biggest films of the next year and Wish is tracking to be a hit with possibly excellent legs due to the lack of holiday competition for families
  10. It isn't THAT hard: 1. Bring back the co-featured appearances that catapulted Phase 3 into a new level of BO (Civil War starring everyone, Homecoming co-starring Iron Man, Ragnarok co-starring Hulk etc.) I feel like Feige was only doing this when he had the pressure from a new competitor in the DCEU with CW being confirmed as a reaction to BvS.* 2. Don't just throw new characters like Shang-Chi and Ms. Marvel into new movies and shows without any setup. Follow the Civil War introduction of Black Panther and Holland Spidey template to generate the hype first. It's like Feige has forgotten all the smart strategies he employed in Phase 3. 3. Ensure more interconnectedness. 4 years in and we still can't see the big picture of what Phases 4 and 5 building up to other than "multiverse hijinks". In Phase 1, we knew all the characters would unite for the first time in The Avengers right off the bat, in Phases 2-3 the Infinity Stones were immediately setup in The Dark World and the first GotG 4. Better quality control of the shows. Can mediocre shit like Secret Invasion if it's not hitting. 5. Stop hiring Rick & Morty writers. Nothing against them but their sense of humor is not clicking with a large enough audience. *ETA: I forgot that No Way Home and Multiverse of Madness did go the co-feature route, especially MoM where Wanda was the bigger pull than Strange himself. Which brings us to point 6) 6. Stop character assassinating your most interesting characters. MoM did a real hatchet job on Wanda after her high on WandaVision because the writer didn't bother watching the show. She's also been benched for a longer period than the MCU can afford to bench her right now.
  11. Ya'll need to stop taking every leaked source seriously. Just 2 weeks ago that Variety article claimed the Loki finale sets up Kang as the inescapable Big Bad of Phases 5-6 but nothing of the sort happened on the actual show. Even if leakers get a hold of info that was once legit, things change in rewrites all the time.
  12. Well, Morbius did make more than 70M in DOM alone. At the end of the day, it really comes down to how cheap this was to make and how inventive the marketing is.
  13. Despite all the WBD clownery by announcing the Gunnverse immediately after Black Adam's OW, it could have still broken even if it had gotten a China release. My man just had terrible luck
  14. Nick Fury doing nothing for the male demos. Secret Invasion has damaged the character so bad
  15. Yeah you're right. Swamp Thing can be a genre-bending <50M budget creature feature.
  16. At this point, how low budget does Swamp Thing need to be to make profit, coz apparently even Blue Beetle budget doesn't seem to be low enough? Also, while the Max team might turn out to be better at quality control than Disney+ with their crop of CBM shows, Gunn may need to rethink his plan of interconnecting movies and shows seeing how badly that's screwed the MCU over.
  17. Looks like Ms. Marvel skews too young for MCU's female fandom. Average MCU fangirl seems to be older and more into Scarlet Witch, Black Widow etc. Then again Young Avengers has 1 thing that The Marvels didn't to capture the teen girl base: a cute gay couple, one half of whom will actually be played by one of the Heartstopper actors. The Young Avengers film will need to be about finding Wanda like the Children's Crusade comic to bring in the older fangirls too. 1 or 2 older male Avengers or X-Men will also need to be featured prominently.
  18. Out of all the comic book franchises, Spider-Man is the one with the most goodwill left so if this has a <70M budget, it could make some money if trailers hammer the Spidey connection home
  19. GotG3 managed to make more than 800M despite following up Quantumania. Across the Spider-Verse opened right in the middle of the most insane and overcrowded June where theatres OS couldn't even hang onto screens due to all the new releases and it still made almost as much as the live action TASM2 which opened in an empty time-frame. Yeah, GOOD to GREAT to even GIMMICKY (Deadpool, Venom etc.) superhero movies are fine. What's done are lazy and bad films in the genre getting free passes.
  20. The Whedonisation of MCU dialogues was a real issue even in Phases 2 and 3. Gunn has also been guilty of this for the GotG films with the drop down options of "Why did you say that?/What does that mean?/That's not what that means!'. The novelty of a wisecracking interconnected universe was why ppl didn't mind as much back then. There hasn't been a drop from 100 to 0 in quality in the MCU. It just doesn't have the novelty anymore.
  21. Deadpool 3 and Joker 2 were already well positioned but now they are going to also benefit from being the only major CBMs coming out next year (Kraven will just be a footnote unless it pulls a mini-Venom, Madame Web can't possibly be making its current date considering we've seen nothing at just 3 months before release now)
  22. The biggest irony is that Barbie is a 1000x more woke than The Marvels as it throws around words like fascist, white savior and patriarchy + has a full monologue about society's hypocrisy towards women All The Marvels does is feature women and POC in a more traditional story. So by calling it 'woke', we know what haters actually mean and the thread title is accurate in calling a spade a spade
