  1. Eh, I might be the only one, but I was bored by this movie. It offered, or tried to offer some interesting topics and commentaries; but in my opinion, mostly failed short of making them engaging and actually going somewhere. The cast did fine with what were given I guess, but I don't see any amazing performances either. I thought Zoe Saldana was wasted in her role, and Christian Bale was okay. The standout for me was Casey Affleck but too bad his character wasn't given much more to show.C+

  3. I think this would be the case for this movie. I was talking to my 2 guy friends the other day, they didn't know a thing about the original and they really like this Oldboy. We were discussing/exchanging the similarities and differences between 2 versions, and they expressed genuine interest in checking out the Korean one. I'm curious about what yours and their reactions will be like.
  4. Yeah, as much as I think Jennifer Lawrence did a wonderful job as Katniss, I've never thought of Katniss as a heroine figure in the veins of Ellen Ripley or Sarah Connor. That's not downplaying her, it's just the way her characteristics/personalities are written and portrayed. In the context of The Hunger Games and Catching Fire, I think it mostly works. But for me personally, in a sense, reading the series, I have never really considered Katniss a "hero". Least of all in Mockingjay, where she was pretty much turned into an empty, controlled symbol; a propaganda figure to be exact (probably the biggest reason why Mockingjay just doesn't work for me). I'm curious how they'll handle that particularly weak aspect of the book in the two movies coming up.

  9. Beautiful animation, funny, engaging, and charming. Sadly though, I think the music is mostly fairly good to average, nothing special. I didn't like the song Let It Go when I first heard it and was hoping that watching and hearing it in the context of the movie would change my mind, but nah But they were integrated and used well in the movie. The twist about evil prince is kinda surprising and refreshing. Love the bantering between Anna and Kristoff. Olaf is so cute and funny, full of hearts too. One complaint from me about the story is that I wish Elsa would be involved more, as it was, I thought she was a bit underdeveloped and one-note. Overall, it's a very good animated movie from Disney. beautiful with hearts and a good story. I had a blast watching it in theater with my little cousins, who all enjoyed the movie immensely. A- from me. To keep up with all the rankings above, I would say that for me, Tangled is better. As for this year, I loved both MU and Frozen, but as a college student, MU really connects with me in more ways than one. Both movies are fantastic, and I'm happy to get 2 great animations like this in 2013.
  10. Catching Fire will probably finish around $8M? 1.1m-1.2m admissions?
  11. The success of Korean movies, especially above most Hollywood movies, in South Korea, is pretty incredible. I always love to see local movies thriving like that.
  12. I really liked it, much better than The Hunger Games. Cinematography looks great. Acting performances are mostly good to great, with standouts Jennifer Lawrence, Stanley Tucci, and Johanna Mason for me. PSH is kinda bland, while Hemsworth and Hutcherson just don't do it for me. Unpopular opinion, but I feel the same way about Catching Fire as THG in that the setting up, first half is better than the actual game. However, the game in CF is definitely better, no shaking cam yay! The thing that I dislike the most is probably the romance, it felt forced and unnatural, pretty boring too. Overall, very good movie. Beautiful, intense, and a faithful adaptation. A- from me.
  13. I just read the news about Paul Walker. So sad RIP.
  14. That's true. Gotta say, Gopher and Baumer's "rivalry" is one of the most hilarious things I've seen on this forum.
  15. We need more recruits. There are a few more contenders' performances I need to watch, but Redford is the best so far for me, so atm, I'm rooting for him
  16. I agree that as a survival thriller, All Is Lost is better. But I would rate Gravity just a bit above it because of all the technical wonders that helped elevate the experience I had watching it in theater. Both are fantastic movies with great directing and acting performances.
  17. 1. Captain America: The Winter Soldier2. Wolf of Wall Street3. Her4. Snowpiercer5. Saving Mr. Banks6. Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues7. American Hustle8. The Wind Rises9. How To Train Your Dragon 210. Noah
  18. Speaking about Black Friday, are you guys on the look out for something? Shopping spree?
  19. Or we could change the CF over TH:DOS WW club to a domestic one. Instant win! That's not cheating at all, right?
  20. I think Frozen will absolutely explode on the weekend, especially Saturday. Every single parents I talked to want to take their whole family to see it.
  21. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! I hope you are either enjoying it immensely right now or will have great time at celebrations coming up
  22. Well, at least we know for sure Katniss and Jennifer are officially off the potential baby names' list.
