  1. I really liked TDKR, though my biggest complaint was Nolan using a different city to film TDKR. You could obviously tell that the Gotham City in TDKR was way different than the Gotham City in TDK. TDK was filmed in Chicago, could Nolan not have filmed TDKR there as well to keep things consistent?
  2. I've always loved this movie. The violence, the one liners, Verhoeven's style, and Arnold being Arnold made this a really fun movie to watch. It is my love for this movie that makes me reluctant to see the new one with Colin Farrell.
  3. Which John Hughes directed movie is your favorite?
  4. My guess is that it will end up around the $280m-$285m range by Sunday. It will probably hit $300m by Thursday next week.
  5. Another movie to compare to is Dead Man's Chest which made $14.1m on its first Wednesday.
  6. The effects of the shooting plus The Olympics starting might be a bad combination.
  7. Some of my favorites Police Academy moviesFriday the 13th moviesPredatorCommandoThe Running ManBeetlejuiceRed DawnGremlinsBrewster's MillionsFlight of the Navigator
  8. Yup, a deflated 2nd weekend. Sure, TDK made $75.1m but if you look at the relatively small 41.1% Friday increase, and 21.7% Saturday increase you can't help but think that the Olympics had some effect.
  9. This weekend might not be that good considering that the Olympics are starting.
  10. Batman 89' was a huge record setting event movie. I remember 1989, and Batman was everywhere that year. Me and all of my friends saw Batman 89' numerous times both in the theater and on VHS. As for Batman Returns, I don't think its dark tone was to blame for it making less. I think the villians were a bit of a let down from Nicholson's Joker. People seem to forget how well received Nicholson's performance was. Many believed that his performance carried the movie and was what made it so popular. The more that I think about it, the more I see history repeating itself with TDKR. It is ironic that TDKR like Batman Returns has Catwoman in it, and they are both sequels to a Batman film featuring the Joker as the main villain.
  11. I have yet to see TDKR as I'm waiting until August 5th so I could take my Dad for his birthday. From the reviews I have read the consensus seems to be that while TDKR is really good, it is not as good as BB or TDK. Would that be what everyone here would agree on? (I'm trying to see how high my expectations should be).
  12. Too soon to say, his work is too new. If we could fast forward 20-30 years look back, and see his movies as classics the same way we see Spielberg's work then I would agree.
  13. If the shooting really is to blame for these numbers, then what makes people think it will recover? Its not like the media is going to stop reporting on it after this weekend. If anything the media like it always does, will milk this story for weeks and maybe even months.
  14. Agreed, and I've seen the opposite like when Shrek 2's first two days were underwhelming ($11.7m, and $9.1m) and then the huge weekend ($108m) caught many off guard.
  15. I think the shootings had a bit of an effect. There are segments of the US population that will believe everything the news media says, and there are people in the media blaming the movie for the shooting. Inevitably there are probably people out there that changed their mind on seeing TDKR. Heck, there are probably people planning to boycott the movie and try to dissuade others from seeing it now. However, I think the shooting will have little to no effect on actual Batman/Nolan fans. Those who are fans of BB and TDK will not be staying away from TDKR just because of the shooting. I think those who are saying that a $170m-$180m opening weekend would be disappointing had too high of expectations in the first place. I wish people would stop looking at record breakers like Avatar, and The Avengers and think every big movie is going to do that now.FYI: The Dark Knights OW adjusts to $174.7m, and I think anything over that would be excellent.
  16. I agree, I think it would be sad if people changed their movie going plans just because of the Colorado shooting. Avoiding TDKR because of this kind of makes the shooter the winner in all of this in my opinion.
  17. Not very good though the evil superman was kind of cool.C
  18. Can anyone think of any movies they loved the first time they saw it in theaters, but after repeated viewings you have second thoughts. For me:Independence Day - used to be one of my favorite movies after I first saw it, but now I change the channel when it comes on TV.Star Wars: Attack of the Clone - Loved it in the theater, but now it is my least favorite Star Wars movie. The Dark Knight - Loved it when I first saw it, now I still like it but not as much.
