WKND BO: #StarTrek $70.6M/$84.1M, IronMan3 $35.2M/$337.1M, Gatsby $23.4M/$90.2M

It is just a crowded May.

Im3 has been huge with GA, Gatsby was brilliant counter programming sucking up female audiences and next week it s the trifecta Fast 6-Hang III and Epic.

GA had to make choices and Trek was a priority only with male geeks.

GA doens't see 4 movies a month.

Basically Trek is at the same bad spot as Dark Shadows back then.

It could not be the only victim, you know ...

Hangover III looks very iffy.  But the last R-Rated comedy was Pain & Gain (a month ago), and before that it was Scary Movie 5 (two months). It's positioned well so it could do good business after all.

SATURDAY 4:45 PM, 6TH UPDATEInternational for Star Trek Into Darkness from Paramount Pictures, Skydance Productions, and director J.J. Abrams‘ Bad Robot continues way up from the last film with $35M projected for this weekend, led by Russia debuting at $9M vs $2M. That would put the overseas total at a projected $75M through Sunday with just over half of all markets opened.

More bad news, Russian number will be between 5-6M not 9M.

Trek overseas was always a lost cause despite Paramount executives and their focus groups telling them people wanted more shit blown up and less hardcore sci-fi elements.

I'm hoping Hangover 3 drops like a rock.

It deserves more.

Maybe so but that doesn't explain how its a victim.

If this movie is losing the female audience to Gatsby then it becomes a viewers choice issue.

The choice is between Leo and Cumberbatch.  Easy choice, imo.

I can see if there was an active smear campaign against it or an unfortunate tragic situation occurred (TDKR)

then yeah. But as it stands none of that is the case.

Cumberbatch is not the hero, Kirk is.

So Chris Pine is not hot?

Deadline Breaking News, Nikkin Finke has an insider source that says :

JJ drops out of Star Wars 7.

Never was a Star Wars fan in the first place.

JJ goes back to TV to re-boot Lost without Damon Lindelof to give it a proper ending.
