4-Day Wknd Est: FF6 - 120M; TH3 - 51.2M; STID - 47M; Epic - 42.6M; IM3 - 24.3M; TGG - 17M

Recommended Posts

40.83 M / 167.45 M (4.10X) CASINO ROYALE

67.53 M / 168.37 M (2.49x) QUANTUM OF SOLACE

88.36 M / 304.36 M (3.44x) SKYFALL

SKYFALL was a sequel but it held way better than QOS. That for me is great WOM.

Skyfall reintroduced Q and Moneypenny, had a great marketing campaign and Adele song, and

killed off M

. There was a must-see factor there that made it more than "just another Bond movie"

FF6 is the 6th installment of a popular franchise. It's always gonna be more frontloaded than the first installment of a SURPRISE HIT franchise that came out of nowhere. Iron Man opened big but beyond that, it's potential was pretty much limitless. Mass appeal, first installment, something new (Iron Man has never been done before, recently anyway), combined with great WOM etccc. Come back to me when Iron Man 6 has good WOM (or even Iron Man 4), then we can start comparing second weekend drops.

So there right? Not all comic book movies (new entries) made numbers the way IRON MAN did. Comic book adaptations usually don't perform like that. FANTASTIC FOUR, THOR, CA: TFA, GL.

Skyfall was a great film but the whole 50th anniversary factor was an X factor...

A comparison would be like TA boosting IM3.

It cause a lot more attention and awareness for the film, add in that it was a great film it exploded.

It depends on the film really. Something lM3 doing like 2.5 would be solid, while MOS getting a 2.5 multiplier would be horrid. Perhaps it appears the people watch these films are just people?

Well that's actually what I expect in MoS(2.5x). Not because its a bad movie but the competition is going to do major damage.

The competition is pretty light for a summer release. I'd consider a 2.5x multi disappointing

Hence the great WOM, right? It's when the audience expands and gives a film good holds because they enjoy what they see in the movie.

The two recent FAF also have new tricks. They added The Rock, they changed the theme from being a racing-centered movie to a crime-solving one, whatever you want to call it. Those were must see factors. Plus the end credit scene.

And yet SKYFALL had weaker legs than CR.

But that doesn't mean it didn't have great wom. CR's wom was just better. People use the "sequel" argument all the time. SKYFALL had way better legs than QOS despite opening bigger and experiencing serious competition.

Well no, Fast Five added the Rock and reimagined the series as capers with cars. Hence the huge increase and stronger holds compared to the fourth one. So yes, must-see factors

Furious 6 kept all of those factors but they're no longer new, so there's less room to increase. It'll keep most of F5's audience and expand it a little, but it no longer has the unique must-see factor F5 did. So it'll open bigger, and have worse legs.
