Gadar and sunny deol go hand in hand. If you make gadar 2 with some other actor, it won't work at all. However, if they had cast someone like karthik Aryan, Varun dhawan or ayushman khurana for the son's role, this would have taken a bigger opening. Easy 40+

The reason the movie is even being made is to give Aayush Sharma, who is the director Anil Sharma's son, a second launch after Genius flopped 4 years ago. Recasting was never going to happen.

I am aware of the that. However, imagine if they had one of the popular young actors in this. It's potential would have been bigger. Frankly, this movie will do nothing for Aayush Sharma. Reviews will say he is the weakest link of this movie and no director/producer will ever hire him in a lead after this because anyone sane knows the movie is doing well due to brand gadar and nostalgia.

I don't think casting Ayushman or KA or Varun would have mattered. It would have opened as much as it will open now.

 

Besides it's a plus to have continuing cast from the first film.

BTW do you think in Canada Sunny being BJP MP & not supporting farmer protest will hurt the film? In Punjab I feel it is underperforming. When ideally it should be doing crazy numbers.

 

The original Gadar is biggest hit ever here, it was only crossed by Dhoom 3 in 2013.

I think sunny deol lost a lot of star power with punjabi due to the farmer protest.

 

However a lot of punjabis don't like bollywood as much anymore.  Like they will watch films like pathaan or rrr and stuff still.

 

Still  will get interest as gadar 1 is a film widely remembered. Remember it was the first major bollywood movie to show partition in a graphic manner.

I wonder how insane Gadar2 hype would have been if the trailer was atleast decent. It is still gonna have very good opening though but that trailer looked so bad for me, at times felt like a parody

It's a 90s movie releasing in 2023 and being completely committed to that bit , no "wink wink we know it's stupid" acknowledgment. There will be a lot of genuine as well as ironic love for it due to that.

I feel like the Gadar brand value is the main reason. If this was an original movie and not a sequel, then a trailer cut like this would have led to opening of <5 Crores. The trailer really makes it look like a movie that should have been released 15-20 years ago. Compare the trailer cut to some of the other recent mass movies like say KGF..so much difference in quality

Gadar 2 - The Katha Continues Creates Havoc - Insane Bumper Opening

Gadar 2 - The Katha continues has created havoc all over with an insane bumper opening recording occupancy which have not been seen in this modern era when films are releasing on these huge number of screens. This sort of craze has not been witnessed in recent times and takes you back to the old good days. Pathaan was pretty insane itself and KGF 2 but this is another level with the mass audience with record opening collections like for like..

 

 

More than collections its the euphoria at cinemas which is there and the vast volume of crowds being seen at cinemas which has not been seen for ages. Gadar 2 - The Prem Katha was a white horse which could have gone the way it has gone but could have easily gone the other way also. But as soon the teaser came out it just rekindled memories of Gadar Ek Prem Katha and since then there has been no looking back for the film as the trailer added extra momentum. It is basically hitting cinemas like a runaway train where momentum is just unstoppable.

 

 

Sunny Deol is a huge star in terms of popularity and face value with the masses but that has never been reflected in collections over the last decade and more due to films not having the elements needed mainly in terms of dialogues which create an impact. This one is like going back to the 90's and the days when no one could open like him on the first day.

 

 

The opening of the film is the biggest ever in many circuits but the film is not a solo release with Oh My God 2 releasing and holdovers also wanting multiplex space so the overall total is unlikely to match a Pathaan or a KGF 2 but despite these restrictions it will be challenging those films in many areas.

 

 

The standouts are Delhi / UP, Rajasthan and Bihar with no words to describe the opening here. West Bengal could have been better while many centres in East Punjab mainly Punjab political could also have done better. Sunny Deol was god in East Punjab in the 90's but joining politics may have taken the shine out of that. Still overall East Punjab will come out with a big first day number. South is surprisingly doing very well as this was expected to have low collections but the numbers are much better than expectations be it Hyderabad or Bangalore.

It has REAL euphoria surrounding it. Real ticket purchase happening and real people watching it. Hardly any mass corporate booking happening here, which has been happening in Bollywood lately. Theatres are actually full. People are being tractors & trucks in the cinema!!!! Sunny Deol is back and how. Would love to see him become a major force again.

This is what Bollywood needs. Small-mid budget films that cater to masses and pulse of audience and nostalgia. Not these overhyped and overpriced films with corporate booking saving their asses.

Apparently Sunny Deol is basically an extended guest role in the movie. He's only in about 30-45 minutes of the 3 hour movie with Utkarsh Sharma being the actual lead.
