After a long time I saw a bollywood movie in theatre and it's OMG2. I am not exaggerating but it's one of the best movies to ever come out of bollywood, if you have time, watch this one, not a single (yes single) dull moment in 150 min runtime movie.

Gadar 2 - The Katha Continues Creates Havoc - Insane Bumper Opening Gadar 2 - The Katha continues has created havoc all over with an insane bumper opening recording occupancy which have not been seen in this modern era when films are releasing on these huge number of screens. This sort of craze has not been witnessed in recent times and takes you back to the old good days. Pathaan was pretty insane itself and KGF 2 but this is another level with the mass audience with record opening collections like for like.. More than collections its the euphoria at cinemas which is there and the vast volume of crowds being seen at cinemas which has not been seen for ages. Gadar 2 - The Prem Katha was a white horse which could have gone the way it has gone but could have easily gone the other way also. But as soon the teaser came out it just rekindled memories of Gadar Ek Prem Katha and since then there has been no looking back for the film as the trailer added extra momentum. It is basically hitting cinemas like a runaway train where momentum is just unstoppable. Sunny Deol is a huge star in terms of popularity and face value with the masses but that has never been reflected in collections over the last decade and more due to films not having the elements needed mainly in terms of dialogues which create an impact. This one is like going back to the 90's and the days when no one could open like him on the first day. The opening of the film is the biggest ever in many circuits but the film is not a solo release with Oh My God 2 releasing and holdovers also wanting multiplex space so the overall total is unlikely to match a Pathaan or a KGF 2 but despite these restrictions it will be challenging those films in many areas. The standouts are Delhi / UP, Rajasthan and Bihar with no words to describe the opening here. West Bengal could have been better while many centres in East Punjab mainly Punjab political could also have done better. Sunny Deol was god in East Punjab in the 90's but joining politics may have taken the shine out of that. Still overall East Punjab will come out with a big first day number. Hollywood Dominates: Oppenheimer Outstanding - Barbie Good The last two months has seen Hollywood give two HITS in India with Fast X and Mission Impossible - Dead Reckoning though despite proving solid HITS the numbers may be seen a little bit on the lower side considering the franchise value of the two films. But this week there is a total outperformance with Oppenheimer which has opened better that both the established franchises in the places where bulk of the collections come for Hollywood. There is only a Hindi dubbed version for the film and the opening here is so so and not much of a release but the English version is simply outstanding and far better than the likes of Fast X and Mission. In fact at some cinemas the opening is comparable to Avatar - The Way Of Water. It is the brand value of director Christopher Nolan at play here with the class audiences of major centres. The better cinemas of places like Lucknow and Nagpur are also managing to up a very good show in the English version. Awful trailer, I had so much expectations from this one. I am still hoping the movie will be better and not complex to understand, this multiverse nonsense is getting beyond me now.

I think it's totally possible that there's no fixed Black Panther in this movie, it could be multiple people taking up the mantle ala Spartacus. Everywhere in the promotions for this movie, Wakanda Forever is being highlighted more than Black Panther itself, the movie is about the kingdom rather than individuals.

What I mean is Ant Man 3 followed by GOTG 3 will get universal acclaim (~90% RT and better public WOM) as opposed to movies released this year so far as well as BP2 which I am skeptical about.

I am going to make a bold prediction here, BP2 WW < BP1 DOM. MCU will emerge from the shadows next year with Ant Man 3.

Saw this today, 1st Marvel movie I have genuinely disliked in a long long time, even Eternals was passable. The movie is just plain boring for long stretches and that's all I am going to say. There's some definite course correction required otherwise the ROI will keep on decreasing with new movies.

Saw this today in India, loved every second of it. This is the best movie of Tom Cruise's career and this is saying something. Really hoping it wins the summer ahead of JW, I know it's tough but I really hope it wins, it'll be totally deserved. Also on a side note, is there a spoiler thread for this movie?

Finally saw it today, really liked it, it's my type of movie. Some boring bits in between but overall worked for me. Benedict Cumberbatch was the MVP IMO. Having said that I totally understand why the WOM is mixed, even in my theatre there were a lot WTF reactions throughout so this is clearly not a formulaic completely accessible Marvel movie. I am almost certain in India it's weekend to final BO collection multiplier will be < 2. If I had to guess for DOM B.O, its most likely going to be ~2.20.

Dr Strange - In The Multiverse Of Madness Takes A Fantastic Opening Dr Strange - In The Multiverse Of Madness took a fantastic 55-60% opening on average across India. This is huge occupancy considering its a non holiday. The occupancy is a little short of the last Hollywood blockbuster Spiderman - No Way Home but it has higher ticket rates than Spiderman - Now Way Home which can cover the shortfall. The advances were also very much similar to Spiderman - No Way Home with collections being same while admits were a little less. The film should be able to hit the 30 crore nett mark on day one but the Spiderman - No Way Home number will depend on how the film fares in the languages as these versions depend more how collections move on the day rather than the advance. Also Spiderman is a far more known superhero than Dr Strange in India and that could mean this film may not be as strong as Spiderman - No Way Home in the mass circuits. At the time of Spiderman - No Way Home release there were restrictions due to covid19 especially in Maharashtra so here Dr Strange has chances to score better here on the first day. Spidrman - No Way Home also had a huge out performance in South with insane collections in all southern circuits and its quite likely Dr Strange will do the same but not to the level of Spiderman - No Way Home which may mean that some of the Hindi circuits go over Spiderman - No Way Home even if the all India number does not. Doctor Strange Advance Into Overdrive Over The Weekend The advance of Doctor Strange - In The Multiverse Of Madness went into overdrive over the weekend and showed brisk sales over Saturday and Sunday. The film had already crossed an advance of 10 crore nett before the weekend but now its stands at around 20 crore nett. The film is going to take a huge opening with South circuits leading as the three bigger ones (Nizam / Andhra, Mysore and Tamil Nadu) are expected to collect 3-4 crore nett each. Spiiderman - No Way Home collected 33 crore nett late last year but that might be a push as Spiderman is a bigger brand than Strange and also as a film Spidey probably has more for the masses. They way the advance is going especially at the bigger multiplexes it will probably look like a 30 crore nett opening day by the time the advance ends on Thursday night. The issue may well be slower movement on the day as advance for this film has been open for almost a month so a lot will be baked into the advance and also it may not have the mass patranoge of the Avengers movies or Spiderman films which may keep the film under 30 crore nett. The fact that Dr Strange - In the Multiverse of Madness is challenging the advance numbers of Spiderman - No Way Home is a huge achievement. Doctor Strange Sets Advance Records A Week Before Release Doctor Strange - In The Multiverse Of Madness has set an advance record as it crosses 10 crore nett advance a week before release which has never happened before. There has probably not been a film also that has opened up advance so early before release in India but whether you do or you dont do there has to be an audience out there and Doctor Strange had it. There will be two Eid releases this week but the real fireworks will come a week after Eid with Doctor Strange - In the Multioverse Of Madness. Heropanti 2 and Runway 34 are the two Eid releases but Eid has fallen in such a way that reports are the key to both films as Eid falls after the weekend. Ideally these films should have released on Monday when it is Eid but then it would be only be a four day run till Dr Strange. The advance of Dr Strange - In the Multiverse of Madness started three weeks back and a couple of days after KGF 2. If we compare the properties where both films opened (Dr Strange opened at very limited properties) then the advance for Dr Strange was faster than KGF 2. This does not mean a better opening for Doctor Stange as advances for Hollywood are generally faster and on top this film has Marvel branding. There is a week left for release and the film already has 11 crore nett in the bag which is already the highest advance outside KGF 2 and Spiderman - No Way Home post pandemic. The national chains of PVR, Inox and Cinepolis are contributing around 8 crore nett to this 11 crore nett figure as more of their properties opened advance. KGF2 Advance Crosses RRR In No Time The advance of KGF 2 (Hindi) which opened on Thursday morning has already crossed the full advance of RRR (HindI) at multiplexes in no time. The advance has mainly opened in multiplexes and single screens that open advance will open up over the weekend or Monday. It is by far the best advance for a film in Hindi post the pandemic and the best since War in 2019 if not better than that film. Basically KGF2 will cover the total advance of RRR (hindi) at multiplexes by the end of business today (Friday). The Cinepolis chain which was first to open advance hit the RRR (hindi) figures in less than 24 hours while Inox chain did in 24 hours and the other major chains will do within 36 or 48 hours. The ticket price rates are at the same price as RRR (hindi) and although these are high rates they worked very well for RRR (Hindi) and no doubt will work even better for KGF 2 to put up a huge opening weekend. The first day will be extraordinary as all areas will be on board unlike RRR (Hindi). The advance of RRR (Hindi) was not great but it was still the best advance for a film in Hindi (Sooryavanshi opened at limited properties) post the pandemic and here KGF 2 is covering it in under two days which puts in line for one of the biggest advances ever for a film in Hindi or among the biggest. So far Bahubali - The Conclusion holds the record notching up 35 crore nett plus before release but how it compares with this will be known next week. The best advance post the pandemic at multiplexes has been Spiderman - No Way Home but the tentpole Hollywood releases are at another level where advances are concerned and cant be compared especially at the pace they start. The difference between KGF 2 and Spiderman - No Way Home will be with the on the day audience which will be far superior for KGF 2 due to the mass audience in the Hindi speaking states. It could also slowly catch the advance of Spiderman - No Way Home also as that stagnated closer to release after an insane flying start as the bigger multiplexes got sold out in the peak time screenings. Here there should be a more wider audience and on top it will have a larger advance in independent multiplexes and single screens next week.
