Indian Box Office Thread | Jawan overtakes Pathaan, becomes highest grossing Indian movie of 2023

Recommended Posts

Watched "Bang Bang", and I can't figure out why it has turned out so bad. It is a remake, which means that the makers already knew what worked and what didn't in the original movie. Instead of fixing what didn't work, they just remade it as is leaving all the issues that "Knight & Day" suffers from in this movie as well.

BOI

Bang Bang had a very good first day grossing around 24.75 crore nett in hindi and around 1.25 crore nett in Tamil and Telugu. The film scored very well in multiplexes but the collections in mass pockets were not as strong as they should be and some single screens saw falls in the last two shows which may be a cause for concern going forward.

The film fared best in Delhi/UP, East Punjab and South India. South India was fantastic be it Nizam, Mysore and Tamil Nadu/Kerala. Mumbai circuit was a let down as the Gujarat/Saurashtra belt had average figures. It was a similar story in Rajasthan CP Berar and CI.

The film has an extended five day weekend to put up a huge total but the problem could be mass centres going the trend on day one. The film is likely to fare better at multiplexes over the weekend and in the long run. The key is a strong hold today. The first day figures are third best of the year after Singham Returns and Kick and the best ever for a Hrithik Roshan starrer.

Haider grossed 5.25-5.50 crore nett on day one with a limited release. The film had very dull collections at single screens and most of the business of the film came from multiplexes. The film did reasonable occupancies at multiplexes but with just 1 screen or two screens in the bigger multiplex it could not really go anywhere.

Its a long extended holiday period and with a limited release it can hold through the holiday period but it depends on the public word of mouth. The film is depending on collections in Delhi and Punjab which are pretty good on day one and Mumbai and Bangalore to pick up. The rest have fared poorly.

The plus is an extended weekend and no major opposition for three weeks but that only comes into play if the film can hold its collections today.

It turned out to be a slightly disappointing weekend in the end. "Bang bang" wasn't good enough to sustain collections and has basically 2 more days to collect as much as it can, Haider is trending well but started off small

Bang Bang in hindi grossed 16.50 crore nett on its third day and the fall was similar to the previous day. The film should pick up today but the key is what happens on Tuesday. The approx business of the hindi version of Bang bang till date is as follows.

Thursday - 24,75,00,000

Friday - 20,50,00,000

Saturday - 16,50,00,000

TOTAL - 61,75,00,000

The three day weekend is well behind films like Kick and Singham Returns but slightly better than Jai Ho.

Haider continued with a good trend on day three as it grossed around 5.50 crore nett. The collections were better on day three than day one. The collections are on lower side but it has held up well over the first three days. The approx business of the Hindi version of Haider till date is as follows.

Thursday - 5,25,00,000

Friday - 6,00,00,000

Saturday - 5,50,00,000

TOTAL - 16,75,00,000

Probably true. I don't think BOI's number includes tamil, telugu version grosses. That could be about 4 Cr?

Watched Bang Bang. They have added unnecessary length to the movie to slow it down. The grandmother parts and some other stuff is ridiculous. Siddarth Anand should have just added some songs to Knight and day's basic premise instead of adding 30 minutes extra.

Hrithik has performed very well even though he cannot match Tom Cruise's Charm. Katrina is a complete bust. Comparing her to Diaz's fine performance makes it even worse. The score is good. Technically it is very good. Loved couple action sequences especially on the water.

Since our first Kannada movie did not do well, we sold the rights to our second movie midway through production to RS productions. Now this movie, Bahaddur released on October 3rd has become a blockbuster. I feel like shit.  :(

That is too bad. But everything will hopefully even out over time. The Kannada industry was due a big hit over Dasara, at least it was a movie you were involved with. I watched "Adhyaksha" in a theater in Hubli on my last trip to India a couple of weeks ago. It was a very entertaining movie, happy that it seems to have become a hit as well.

Thank you for your kind words, grim.  :)

Over the last few months, Kannada movies have done very well. Drishya, Adhyaksha, Power *** and Bahaddur have all turned in blockbuster performances.
