Amazing, and one of (if not the) first examples of unreliable narrators in cinemas. It's really a profound statement about how all of us interpret our own reality and truth, based on our own ego, fears, hopes, and passions.

 

But aside from all of that, it's just a really entertaining film as well. Mifune is a standout.

I thought this film was overacted and felt a tad to long. I like what it did with the story but the over acting killed the movie for me.

 

That's the 1950s for you. Everyone overacts.

 

Anyway, great film. Had a much deeper message than I had anticipated. What I found most interesting was how all three witnesses implicated themselves in the man's death. Shows just what kind of influence pride can have on the distortion of truth.
