fast cutting montages. it seems to suggest that the camera is itself a subject. the soundtrack by alloy is superb. an enthralling experience.

It's definitely one of the most hypnotic movies I've ever seen. Soviet montage will do that to you. Also, Michael Nyman's score (which is on my DVD of the movie) is absolutely beautiful and complements the film perfectly.

absolutely. i suspect the majority of my disinterest in ozu's silents is due to the shitty ragtime piano music that came with it.

I actually really enjoyed it. Takes awhile to get into it but after about twenty minutes you are just immersed into the film despite it's complete lack of plot. A

also i have to mention that i have seen it both times with alloy orchestra, and that they are unimaginably better than nyman in this case.
