A great film, nearly as good as the original. Johnny Depp did a great job acting.

May be more faithful to the book but I like the original better. Gene Wilder craps all over Johnny Depp in this role. Depp annoyed me in this film

One the best combination of visuals, music and direction in Burton's career. Plenty of heart too. 

 

Shameful that the actual Chocolate Factory part is such a snoozer, especially for someone who has already seen the movie before. 

 

Performances are all on point, but Depp is on another level completely, he is always fun to watch. Wonka's characterization is one of the highlights and the black humor inherent to him is just fab. 

 

Might not the great movie I once remembered it being, but it's still an above average kiddie flick.

The single thing about this movie that I maybe find a little tiring is the trailing plot thread of family that takes up ten minutes of the end. This is the quintessential adaptation of the book for me A-
