Netflix wants to stream movies 30 to 45 days after theatrical release

Recommended Posts

Haven't they been pushing for "day and date" for awhile now?

How much do films make from Netflix alone? Surely not enough for studios to consider changing their entire business model to accommodate their request. Netflix needs the movies more than the studios need Netflix. Remember, without the attractions, no one makes a dime. It all starts with the films.

They also want their original films to be on the level of summer blockbusters.

Good luck with that.

This reminds me of how people were saying that physical comic books would go the way of the do-do due to web-based comics. But all it did was generate more interest in owning physical copies. It may evolve but you can't change the soul of what makes something popular. Blockbusters sow the seeds of popularity in theaters then home video sales/rentals/cable reap the rewards. If Netflix is successful in circumventing the theater system, it will only be shooting itself in its own foot. Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

This is a horrible idea. Theater would be hurt big time from this and watching movies from Netflix on tv is not the same as watching them in a movie theater.

I doubt studios would go for this at all as they would lose out on lots of money.

No. this will lose the film makers and movie theaters lots of money. and it's stupid

So? Filmmakers and actors get paid too much as it is. It sickens me that Johnny Depp got paid 150m for Pirates 4, yet we are still asked to donate our money to charity lol.
